Today, Charlie Kirk is being remembered with a memorial service at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

For those who need a reminder, the 31-year-old ally of Donald Trump was fatally shot while speaking at a university event in Utah on 10 September. And for Kirk's funeral, which is being attended by members of the public and political figures alike, organisers are pulling out all of the stops.

The venue can seat around 73,000 people, and strict TSA-style security measures have been put in place, with large queues forming outside the stadium as people undergo checks and the stadium continues to fill.

Turning Point USA has announced that seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, based on stadium capacity, with overflow seating also available at the Desert Diamond Arena.

There is also a strict no bag policy in effect and guests arriving with bags, even clear bags, 'will NOT be permitted entry'. They will instead be required to return the bag to their vehicle and rejoin the line from the end.

The official website for the event adds that due to the enhanced security measures in place, there may be longer wait times than usual.

Huge crowds have filled the stadium as the funeral gets underway, and for those unable to attend, it is also being live-streamed around the world.

Prior to the event, an extensive list of banned items was also published by State Farm Stadium - home of the Arizona Cardinals and the annual American college football bowl game, the Fiesta Bowl.

The event venue claims that security teammates cannot hold surrendered items and should not be left unattended in the landscape/carparks.

The security measures include magnetometers, which screen all attendees and their belongings. Physical pat-downs are being done for those with medical exemptions, the venue has confirmed.

Those who don't consent to either the medical detector screening or a physical pat-down will be denied entry.

The 'banned items' include, but are not limited to:

  • Aerosol cans
  • Alcohol
  • Ammunition

  • Anything that can make a noise - whistles, horns, bells, etc.
