Erik Menendez’s daughter speaks out on her dad and uncle’s case which could soon be about to see major update

Lyle and Erik Menendez were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in 1996 following the murder of their parents

A major update regarding the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez which could see them freed from prison after 35 years behind bars has been released.

The brothers were imprisoned to life without parole in 1996 for the murder of their parents José and Kitty Menendez.

They admitted to the killing, but claimed at their trial that it was a last resort following sexual abuse at the hands of their father, which they said their mother turned a blind eye to.

Lyle claims he was abused between the ages of six and eight, while Erik says he was abused from the age of six to 18 - which was the age he was when he shot his parents.

Netflix released Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story earlier this month, with Erik slamming the 'inaccuracies' from prison.

Despite this, the nine-part series has sparked new interest in the case with hundreds of thousands of people calling for their release.

Erik married his wife Tammi Menendez after she first made contact to him while he was behind bars in 1993, eventually meeting in 1997.

Tammi's daughter from a previous marriage, Talia, first met Lyle when she was a child and now advocated for her 'Earth Dad' to be released via her Instagram page, @seterikmenendezfree.

Lyle and Erik Menendez have filed a habeas corpus petition, a legal process which determines whether or not someone's imprisonment is lawful, which could potentially see them walk free.

In a new update, Talia wrote: "Within 60 days we will hear back from the LA County District Attorney office regarding their decision for Erik's and Lyle's appeal for freedom filed in May last year.

"As everyone knows, there was new evidence proving the abuse endured after decades of not being believed and that evidence had been excluded from the retrial.

"I'm praying the DA/judge has compassion not only for what my dad and uncle endured but also the fact that all of us family wants them home.

"Almost 35 years is enough time locked away. They have spent more time incarcerated than alive in the real world. Let that sink in. Set them free!"

In a separate post, Talia explained: "I noticed a lot of DMs I'm getting being confused about what the decisions could ultimately be from the DA.

"Option 1: Time served & they would prepare for release.

"Option 2: 3-5 years more.

"Option 3: Immediately go to the parole board > not a great option & case will become political.

"Option 4: No change. LWOP sentence still stands."

Talia concluded: "Praying they get time served for 35 years and are released!"
