A man has been apprehended by Metropolitan Police after an 11-year-old girl and 34-year-old woman were stabbed in London’s Leicester Square earlier today.
According to the city's authorities, both victims have been transferred to hospital, but another update on the status of their injuries cannot yet be released.
The perpetrator is currently in custody and is believed to be the sole suspect.
"Officers are at the scene of a stabbing in Leicester Square," the force said in a statement today.
"A man has been arrested and is in custody. We don’t believe there are any outstanding suspects.
"Two victims, an 11-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman, have been taken to hospital and we await an update on their condition."
According to BBC News, several officers still remain on hand at the scene of the crime, which occurred in one of the UK capital's busiest tourist districts.
Metropolitan Police have been photographed beside the Lego store on Swiss Court, just off Leicester Square.
The area has been cordoned off with police tape.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said paramedics were called at 11:36 this morning after reports of a stabbing.
"We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer. We also dispatched members of our tactical response unit.
"We treated a child and an adult at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre."
