‘World’s nicest judge’ Frank Caprio shared heartbreaking final video before dying aged 88

Tributes from across the globe have flooded in following the Caught in Providence star's passing, which was announced yesterday (20 August)

Frank Caprio, who has long been hailed the 'world's nicest judge' shared a heartbreaking final video before dying aged 88.

The former Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of Providence, whose judicial work was televised on the programme Caught in Providence, became a household name across the United States and wider world due to his signature compassionate courtroom style, which produced hundreds of viral clips on social media.

However, after a 'long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer', Caprio has now passed away 'peacefully', leaving people across the globe mourning over the loss of the 'real American legend'.

A few hours before his death was announced to his 3.5 million Instagram and 1.7 million TikTok followers, Caprio uploaded what would end up being his final-ever video posted to fans on Wednesday (20 August).

Speaking in the video clip, he said: "Last year I asked you to pray for me, and it's very obvious that you did, because I came through a very difficult period.

"Unfortunately, I've had a setback, I'm back in the hospital. Now, I'm coming to you again and asking you to remember me in your prayers once more."

Caprio captioned the video: "As I continue this difficult battle, your prayers will lift my spirit."

A few hours later, an official statement confirming Caprio's passing was shared to his Instagram account.

It began: "Judge Frank Caprio passed away peacefully at the age of 88 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

"Beloved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond. His warmth, humour, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him."

The statement continued: "He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. His legacy lives on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired.

"In his honor, may we each strive to bring a little more compassion into the world — just as he did every day."

Tributes have since poured in from all over with one fan writing: "One of the few judges that were strictly FOR the people. Compassionate, understanding, and empathetic. RIP."

"Oh my gosh no! He was the sweetest man. Rest in peace Mr C," penned a second, while a third offered: "May he rest in peace. We lost a real American legend for real this time.

"Unexpectedly emotional."

A fourth praised: "Incredible man. He will certainly be remembered - especially by those he showed such kindness to within his courtroom.

"World lost a great human today. Rest in peace, sir," lamented a fifth.

Another commiserated: "This Judge should be an example for all judges. He wielded humanity in his courtroom, which brought justice."

And a final fan echoed: "The world was graced with his presence and reels in his absence. Truly a kind man."
