Kylie Jenner slammed for wearing controversial necklace

"Do people not think about stuff before they do it?"

Kylie Jenner's new accessory has been slammed by the internet.

The beauty mogul has received strong criticism for wearing a necklace, which some people have branded 'tone deaf' and 'tacky'.

After Kylie was spotted watching supermodel Irina Shayk wearing the equally controversial black lion head gown at the Schiaparelli show on Monday (23 January), the star made another fashion statement which has left people in uproar.

The mum-of-two was spotted wearing the Spring 2022 Givenchy noose necklace with a tight electric blue dress and sparkly pink boots from the same fashion house.

And fans on Twitter were not happy with Kylie's latest fashion choice, with some believing the necklace had sinister connotations.

Referencing the fact nooses are used as methods of execution, one person called it 'just tacky on so many levels'.

They continued: "Not only USA history but other countries that used hanging as a method of execution."

These violent acts of executions were often used to terrorise and control black people, particularly in the South.

They were often carried out by mobs and the NAACP states that police office would also participate.

Another unimpressed Twitter user shared: "Are we even surprised? Did you see that trophy lion head replica that they called fashion?"

While someone else asked: "Why is this even a necklace?"

A third person replied: "Do people not think about stuff before they do it? because the first thing I think when I see a noose is racism in America."

And another person said: "usually I like abstract fashion pieces but this just screams tone death. Nooses have never been fashionable and i don’t think they should be now."

However some came to the reality star's defense.

"People are sensitive with the most smallest things," one person said.

Someone else responded to this, writing: "Yes, a noose is a microscopic thing. not at all related to genocide, hate crimes, and suicide."

The outrage also continued on Reddit, with one unimpressed commenter sharing: "This family really needs to educate themselves on black history considering 9 of their kids/nieces/nephews/grandkids are biracial. There’s really no excuse for this stuff, they have all the resources to learn if they want to."

While someone else wrote: "I have defended a lot of Kylie’s clothing choices but this one is really not defendable. It’s in terrible taste, she’s not dumb enough to claim she can’t tell it’s a noose."

Tyla has contacted Kylie Jenner's representatives for comment.

When the controversial accessory made its debut on the runway in October 2021, Givenchy faced a lot of backlash.

Angela McRobbie, professor of media, communications and cultural studies at Goldsmiths, University of London, told The Guardian: “For me, the questions that are relevant but never gets answered are: who are the decision makers behind the scenes? Who signs off blatantly offensive items like this? When there is a reaction, do they get fired?”

Givenchy told the Guardian at the time: “The house do not have an official response on this.”
