A ferry full of people jumped to a mum’s defence after someone allegedly told her crying baby to ‘shut up’.
A video of the incident has been shared on Reddit by someone with the username Miragen125 alongside the caption: “Ferry passengers defend a mother and her crying baby.” Watch the clip below:
A woman behind the camera could be heard saying: “He said ‘somebody shut that baby up’.”

In the footage, a group of passengers stand around a man wearing a red T-shirt and are shouting at him, with one person saying: “You’re an a**hole.”
In a follow-up comment, Miragen125 clarified: “Occurred on November 6, 2022. We were on the Balearia Ferry coming back to Ft. Lauderdale.
“The ocean was pretty rough, so the water was rocky. We were on the ferry for about an hour at that point when a little baby started crying.
“A gentleman shouted ‘shut up!’ but no one really said anything to him at that point. Then a couple minutes later he shouted, ‘will someone shut that baby up!’.”

They continued: “Immediately all the guys around us and some ladies jumped up and started yelling at him. I initially thought they were with the mum and baby because there was a pretty big family in that section, but I later found out they didn’t know each other.
“During the yelling, the guy didn’t say much but the girl he was with started yelling back and specifically saying to the other ladies that she would fight them and starting personally criticising them, saying they need botox and stuff.
“Eventually, the ferry staff came and moved the couple out of our section and into another section of the boat and we didn’t hear from them again."

Social media users were quick to condemn the man’s alleged behaviour, with one person writing beneath the footage: “What a stupid thing to get mad about.”
Another Redditor added: “I mean, have they never met a baby before? The people complaining looked like adults,” while a third praised ‘the decency and support of the defenders’.
Offering an alternative perspective, another person penned: “I don't think it's necessarily unfair to expect somebody to remove themself and their baby from a situation if it's going on for an extended period, and if leaving is actually a reasonable option.
“For an extreme example, you wouldn't be ok with a crying baby while seeing a movie, and would expect them to leave quickly,” but made sure to clarify: “All that said, still shouldn't shout about shutting the baby up.”
