Olympics viewers have sad complaint about 'unfair' closing ceremony ahead of Paralympics

Olympics viewers have sad complaint about 'unfair' closing ceremony ahead of Paralympics

The Paralympics kicks off at 7.00pm on Wednesday 28 August

The 2024 Olympic Games may have sadly come to an end after 16 record-breaking days, but thankfully, sport spectators still have the upcoming Paralympics to look forward to.

Amid the anticipation to see this year's disabled athletes go head-to-head in a bid for glory, however, some future viewers have made a heartbreaking complaint about the hype for the follow-up games.

The Paralympics will kick off later this month, with an elaborate opening ceremony welcoming professional sports men and women from all over the globe taking place at 7.00pm on Wednesday, 28 August.

The city of Paris - who previously hosted this year's Olympic Games - will be hosting the equally impressive Paralympics.

And like the French capital's previous tournament - which concluded last night (11 August) seeing Team USA take home the majority of victories - the Paralympic upcoming opening ceremony will take place outside the confines of a stadium.

Whilst the Olympics saw this year's competitors sent down the River Seine on boats, the Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Elysées will be the stage for this year's Paralympics.

However, a number of sports fans have made a sad observation about the upcoming, more inclusive games.

Taking to social media during last night's Olympic closing ceremony, one user explained stated their belief that the evening should have served as a handover to the subsequent tournament, in order to emphasise their equal importance.

They also went on to emphasise that the Paralympic ceremonies should be just as prestigious as the Olympics', which are often defined by star-studded appearances - including by stunt actor Tom Cruise - as well as musical numbers and knock-out artistic routines.

"I would love to see a meaningful change made," the sports fan wrote online. "The Olympic closing ceremony should hand over to the Paralympics. Nothing else."

"The Paralympic closing ceremony should then be the moment and the stage to hand over to the next host city."

And by the sounds of things, many other Twitter users were in agreement, with one adding: "They shouldn’t separate the closing ceremony and the start of the paralympics."

Another went on with a disgruntled double-whammy: "@NBCOlympics should be televising The Paralympics & the torch shouldn’t be passed until after they compete!

"Or let them compete first! It’s not fair to those athletes! We want fair coverage for them!"

"What I don’t get is why do they put the Olympic torch out and hand over flag before the Paralympics?!?!" another admitted.

"Saying oh it’s the end of Paris 24?! Its like the Paralympics don’t matter."

While a fourth pointed out: "Doesn’t it seem kind of wrong to blow out the Olympic torch before the Paralympics are over?"
