A debate has been sparked by a man who refused to give up his allocated seat so that another man could sit beside his wife on her birthday.
The husband then later took to TikTok and Instagram to ask social media users if he was in the wrong for asking the random passenger if they could swap seats.
Jay Kloss and his wife Zoe, from Melbourne, booked seats in the business class section of a Virgin flight.

On TikTok, he showed off the seating layout of the plane and explained that his wife was given a window seat with one seat next to it, while he was given one in the inner aisle to the side.
He thought that because he would be asking whoever was next to him to give up virtually the same type of seat, simply in a different position, they would have no qualms about swapping.
"Hey, would you mind moving so I could sit with my missus? It's her birthday'," he said to the man.
"And he just looks at me, he doesn't respond," Jay continued.

"I was like, 'Is it possible if you switch to here?'
"He was like, 'No, I won't, but I'll sit here (Zoe's window seat)'."
Jay then explained that his wife had her reasons for needing the window seat because she 'isn't a great flyer' and can get 'super nauseous'.

He was not amused by this man's attempts at getting a window seat as helping them out would have seemingly made no difference to his in-flight experience.
"Either way, he's either getting the exact same spot [but] just on the other side of the aisle. But he won't take that, he's like, 'Nah, I'll only move to here [Zoe's window seat]'," Jay said.
"So, he'll make us sit on either side of the aisle, just for no reason.
"It's the same seat so anyway, I'm like, 'Bro, really? You sure you can't swap seats with us?' And he just doesn't respond to me."

Zoe then attempted to get the man to move from the seat, but he once again refused, leaving Jay absolutely fuming.
He then begged his followers to tell him whether this man was in the wrong or not, but their reactions were divided to say the least.
Agreeing that the man was in the wrong, one TikTok user wrote: "Some people just wanna be unhappy so they don't try to be nice to others."

"I'm nice," added a second, "I'd move."
"Yep," wrote a third. "He just wanted all the control..."
And someone else said: "Depends on his age, if he’s 40+ it’s a power trip. Old people just don’t like young people sitting in business or first class."
However, not everyone thought the man was unreasonable for refusing to move.
Another TikToker slammed: "why not just book the correct seats, problem solved, if not on that plane, find another [sic]."
A second added: "As a flight attendant, you need to sit in your allocated seats. It's for identification purposes in case of an emergency."
"What difference does it make if it's her birthday?" questioned a third, while a fourth remarked: "Why didn't you book seats together? Seems like it's a you problem and not a his problem [sic]."
