Woman has perfect response after troll claims '4B movement' surging in popularity is just 'political lesbianism'

Woman has perfect response after troll claims '4B movement' surging in popularity is just 'political lesbianism'

A spike of interest in the '4B movement' comes as millions of US women worry what Donald Trump's re-election could mean for their rights

After some American women vowed to join the 4B movement in response to Donald Trump's win in this week's presidential election, one is shutting down accusations that the campaign is simply a case of 'political lesbianism'.

The sensational statement was posted on Reddit today (8 November) in response to a pack of online trolls attempting to diminish the aims of the powerful movement, while also launching a homophobic tirade online.

What is the 4B movement?

The Republican victory against Democrat nominee Kamala Harris earlier this week has prompted a surge in women announcing their plans to join a campaign against the patriarchy which is aimed at protecting their rights as women.

Known as the 4B movement, this began in South Korea some years ago after the oppression of women in the Asian country reached devastating new heights.

Around the time the campaign was founded, domestic violence also accounted for 824 women killed in South Korea (a 2018 statistic), and there's a staggering gender pay-gap in the country.

The combination of these factors meant that, for millions of Korean women, marriage and sexual relationships with men are seen as threatening.

When it comes to the literal meaning of the movement, it is taken from four Korean words that start with 'bi' - which means 'no' in English.

It referred to 'no childbirth', 'no dating', 'no heterosexual relationships', and 'no heterosexual marriage', and essentially describes a tactical boycotting against a system that favours men even when it comes to the female body.

Naturally, therefore, with heartbreaking concerns about attacks on women's rights to an abortion following Trump's return to the White House in January, many US women are vowing to join the movement as a means of protecting their bodies, their minds, and their rights.

One heartbroken woman penned on Twitter in response to the news of Trump's win: "American women, looks like it’s time to get influenced by Korea’s 4B movement."

Another added: "The women in South Korea are doing it. It’s time we join them. Men will NOT be rewarded, nor have access to our bodies."

Trolls chiming in

Naturally, however - as the vast majority of female-led movements tragically do - the US intrigue in the 4B movement has led several online trolls to chime in, many of whom have taken it upon themselves to brand the campaign 'political lesbianism'.

"Political lesbianism is back on the menu," one penned on the discussion forum Reddit in the wake of the movement's popularity, sadly accumulating mass 'likes'.

A perfect response

Thankfully, however, one Reddit user has used her platform to issue an incredible response to the accusation that the 4B movement has any connection to sexuality, explaining that the insinuation is hugely harmful for both groups of women.

"Stop with 'political lesbianism', you're openly saying you think our saying sexuality is a choice," she pointed out, highlighting that the 4B movement is joined out of choice, and that homosexuality is simply a way that someone is.

"Opting to stay single doesn't make you a lesbian and 'political lesbianism' is emphatically homophobic," the social media star bravely added.

"You're saying lesbians are nothing more than 'angry man haters', that as soon as a woman is upset with men or simply can't get a man she can wilfully turn herself into a lesbian, and that our sexual orientation solely revolves around MEN."

The user - who identified herself as a lesbian - explained how these women are already a 'deeply marginalised, traumatised minority' who are 'constantly being stepped on by both the LGBT & straight community at large'.

"The last thing we need is more male attracted women invading our already tiny communities - gleefully drowning out our voices and dismissing our experiences bc they want to vent about men," she continued.

"Bc that's what you think it means to be a lesbian, right? A bunch of gal pals bitching about guys together?"

The user finished her statement by confessing: "We're tired of our community being hijacked by women who come to trauma dump on us every single time a man f**ks them over, jump ship the second a man gives them positive attention (bc it's just a phase, we just need to find the right man don't we) then sulks right on back when they get hurt again.

"We are not your therapists. We do not exist to pat you on the back and hold your hand when men hurt you."

She concluded: "Hetero and bi women are perfectly capable of rallying their own communities and forgoing male relationships without harming lesbians in the process.

"We deal with enough lesbophobia from men as it is, we don't need your secondary victimisation ffs."
