Melania Trump reveals why she refused to give Donald her number the first time they met

Melania Trump is returning to the role of the First Lady for the second time following her husband's inauguration

Melania Trump revealed why she absolutely refused to give Donald Trump her number when they first met.

Trump and his wife, Melania, are now preparing to step back into the roles of President and First Lady of the United States as the businessman took his sworn oath yesterday (20 January) at his inauguration.

At his post-inauguration speech where he made a 'bizarre' comment about her feet, Trump also had tons of praise for Melania, calling her 'incredible'.

The couple have been together for more than 30 years, having first met in 1998 at a New York Fashion Week party.

However, Trump came with his own date at the time as his divorce from his second wife, Marla Maples, was being finalised.

The former model explained in a 2016 interview with Harper’s Bazaar: “He wanted my number, but he was with a date, so of course I didn’t give it to him.”

But why?

Well, it was to make sure that he was serious.

Melania explained: “I said, ‘I am not giving you my number; you give me yours, and I will call you.’ I wanted to see what kind of number he would give me — if it was a business number, ‘What is this? I’m not doing business with you.’”

But instead of just giving her his personal number, she claimed he gave her ‘the office, Mar-a-Lago, home in New York, everything.’

Then, in a power move, she waited a few days before calling him. As for their first conversation on the phone, she revealed that she was shocked.

She said: “I was struck by his energy. He has an amazing sense of vitality.”

Then that was it for the pair.

Although they did have a brief breakup in 2000, while Trump was attempting to get into politics for the first time by attempting to get the Reform Party nomination, it didn’t last long.

At the time, he told The New York Times Public Lives columnist James Barron: “Melania is an amazing woman, a terrific woman, a great woman and she will be missed.’’

A month later, the pair were seen together again and then four years later, he asked her to marry him.

In 2005, the pair got married and in 2006, Barron Trump was born.

This time around, Melania will be forgoing the tradition of primarily staying at The White House during her husband's second term, stating that she will 'be in the White House. And when I need to be in New York, I will be in New York'.

She added: "When I need to be in Palm Beach, I will be in Palm Beach. My first priority is to be a mum, to be a first lady, to be a wife."
