Fake heiress Anna Delvey, real name Anna Sorokin, has shot to fame, despite currently being behind bars, in part due to the Netflix adaptation of her story.
Inventing Anna reveals how the fraudster passed herself off as 'Anna Delvey' the daughter of an oil tycoon, who conned the super-rich of New York and persuaded banks to lend her mountains of cash.
In reality however, Sorokin's father is far from a super-rich oil tycoon. Originally from Moscow, Vadim Sorokin moved to a small town in Germany in search of a better life for his wife and daughter.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Sorokin has spoken out about his daughter's actions: "I speak to Anna three of four times a week from the immigration center in New York and the conversation is always the same - she needs money.
"She is paying people to run around for her in jail, to clean her clothes for her. She has an ability to wrap people around her little finger.
"I've sent her thousands of dollars in the past. At the moment because she is in detention the amounts are small...but even in there she hasn't learned how to control her finances."
He continued by saying that he will open his door to her, even though she has never once said she loves him: "I don't think she has ever once said that she loves me but would tell me instead: 'I'm your only daughter and you have to help me and give me money. I've no way of doing it myself.'"
"But she did find a way - a dishonest and shameful way - and it's landed her in prison and now in an immigration center awaiting deportation."
"Where will she go if she is kicked out of America? We have room for her here in the family home and while we'll support her, we won't enable her to repeat her previous mistakes."
However, in a text to the Daily Mail reporter, Anna reportedly said: "I'd rather be in jail than live with my parents."
Delvey/Sorokin, was born in Moscow but predominately grew up in Eschweiler, Germany. She left Germany at 19 to pursue a fashion degree in Paris.
It was in Paris that she began using the surname Delvey.
Sorokin explained that his daughter left Eschweiler as she felt the town wasn't good enough for her: "Most people in Eschweiler are not really fashion conscious and don't have the same taste for luxury as Anna, which is why she went to London, then Berlin and then Paris."
"She wanted to live like Paris Hilton but we weren't able to give that to her," he added.
Vadim said he found out about his daughter's arrest via the internet and said he was unable to attend her trial because he needed to stay at home to work. He has no plans to watch the Netflix series.
Sorokin doesn't believe his daughter is evil, saying: "I don't think she's evil inside but she needs, for the first time, to figure out what she's going to do with her life."
Concluding the interview, Sorokin was asked what he wants for his daughter now, answering: "I don't know what motivates Anna nor what demons are within her. Will she become a mother? Unlikely. Will she find a job here in a small town? That's unlikely too.
"All I want is for her is to finally find a place for herself in this world."
