Kate Middleton just broke major tradition after sharing Prince Louis portrait celebrating his birthday

Prince Louis turned seven on Wednesday (23 April)

Kate Middleton broke from tradition today (23 April), when she shared Prince Louis' birthday portrait.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have shared an adorable portrait of the young prince to mark his seventh birthday today.

Prince Louis is the youngest son of William and Kate, who are also parents to Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince George, 11.

In the portrait, Louis can be seen sitting in a woodland setting surrounded by bluebells on top of what looks to be a tree stump, with a huge grin on his face.

It is believed he is sitting in the garden at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, which is the family's residence on the Sandringham Estate.

"Wishing Prince Louis a very Happy 7th Birthday!" the photo is captioned.

Royal fans were all making the same comments on the photograph, with many pointing out that Louis looks all grown up now.

The family usually share a new portrait every year to mark their children's birthdays, but in a break from tradition, mum Kate didn't take the photograph herself.

A keen photographer, the Princess of Wales often takes the children's photos and releases them at midnight on their birthday, according to The Daily Mail.

However, this year, the photo was taken by one of the family's favourite photographers, Josh Shinner, and was released mid-morning on the prince's birthday.

Louis was born at 11:01am on 23 April 2018 in St Mary's Hospital in London.

Prince Louis weighed eight pounds seven ounces when he was born, and he and Kate were able to return home to Kensington Palace later that day.

In photos, William could be seen taking George and Charlotte to see their new little brother in hospital, before the Prince and Princess of Wales posed on the steps of the hospital with their newborn.

People can't believe the youngest Wales sibling was born seven years ago, with another writing on X: "Wow! 7 y/o already!? Time flies. Happy Birthday Prince Louis!! Hope you have wonderful birthday!"

For Prince George's 11th birthday in last year, fans believed they'd spotted some jewellery on the young prince's bracelet.

This led many to believe that it was a reference to Taylor Swift, whose concert George attended with his father and younger sister, Charlotte.

They even got a selfie with the 'Bad Blood' singer, who wrote in the caption: "Happy Bday M8! London shows are off to a splendid start."
