In an unprecedented move for the British Royal Family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the shock decision to change a key aspect of their son Archie's name in a revelation which left many royal fans confused.
Ever since the couple first stepped into the spotlight together, countless Brits hoped the move would set a precedent for progress in their country, being that Meghan Markle was the first woman of colour to join the institution, who also happened to be divorced.

However, the duchess was subject to cruel headlines from the tabloids, and she and hubby Prince Harry ended up resigning from their official senior Royal duties.
Then, the couple travelled across the Atlantic to set up home in the States, in a bid to secure a more private life for their growing family, away from the speculation of others.
Since then, the duo have lifted the lid on countless royal scandals in the form of a bombshell Netflix documentary.

And ahead of the 2021 birth of their daughter, Lilibet (a nickname for Elizabeth, the now-late Queen), the couple sat down for an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey.
So, it's pretty fair to say that the couple are rewriting the rulebook when it comes to life in the public eye.
And as we say, one of the groundbreaking changes the duo made during their transition from royals to parents was to change a key aspect to their son's name.

Born on 6 May, 2019, Archie was registered 11 days after his birth and then an alteration was made on 5 June.
Where his mother was previously listed as, 'Rachel Meghan Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex', in accordance to royal protocol, it now reads something else entirely.
In fact, it just reads, 'Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex'.
When news first broke of the alteration, The Sun suggested: "The unprecedented move could be seen as a snub to the Cambridges who have included Kate’s names on her children’s certificates."

This was later proven to be false, as royal reporter Omid Scobie shared a statement from a spokesperson for Meghan, which included: "The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace."
It later confirms: "This was not dictated by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, nor the Duke of Sussex."
