Meghan Markle makes major admission about her time as a working royal

The Duchess of Sussex appeared to open up about how she felt after leaving her royal duties in 2020

Meghan Markle has made a jaw-dropping announcement regarding her time as a working royal after marrying Prince Harry in 2018.

Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are no longer working royals since their bombshell departure in 2020.

Following their choice to become financially independent and leave their duties behind, the pair left England for Los Angeles.

The reason behind their decision to leave the spotlight became public knowledge following an interview between Meghan and Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

Meghan, a woman of colour, confided in Oprah about racist questions she faced from a senior royal when she told then she was pregnant with her son, Archie.

According to Meghan, she was questioned on what colour skin her child would be.

Abhorrent headlines followed from tabloids which reduced Meghan to her skin tone and suggested that her admissions about suicidal ideation were exaggerated.

Just last week, Meghan caught up with her friend Oprah at the latter's book club session at the Godmothers bookstore, near Meghan's home, Montecito, California.

Meghan opened up about the way bookshops have provided comfort to her in her life.

She said: "For me, sneaking to New York five years ago was a really big deal."

She then added something which some have perceived to be a reference to how she felt after leaving the royal family.

Meghan added: "I was still so uncomfortable being out in the world.

"The safety of what I was craving, I knew I could find in a bookstore."

Meghan then thanked Rudolph Walsh and Victoria Jackson, the founders of the Godmothers bookstore, for 'holding the space for so many people to feel seen through the pages, either in laughter, in grief, in feeling less alone.'

Shortly after the event, Meghan said: "I've got to make dinner for the kids."

Meghan wasn't the only high profile name in attendance - with Ellen DeGeneres, Glee's Jane Lynch and author Elizabeth Holmes also making an appearance.

Psychic medium Laura Lynne Jackson called Meghan a 'light-filled speaker' following her appearance at the bookclub.

According to Town & Country, Prince Harry was also in attendance, and the pair arrived in a 'darkened Range Rover' and were happy to see other guests and greeted them with warmth.

Meghan and Harry first began dating back in 2016, with their romance becoming public knowledge that same year.

The duo announced their engagement in November 2017 and exchanged vows in a televised wedding at Windsor Castle in 2018.

Their son, Archie, arrived in 2019.

Their daughter, Lilibet, joined the family in 2021.
