Prince Harry has brutally honest answer on ‘destroyed’ relationship with family in bombshell new interview

A new ITV documentary tells all about Prince Harry's battle against the tabloid press

Prince Harry has opened up about the reasons behind the 'rift' between him and the rest of the Royal Family in a major new interview set to air tomorrow night.

Harry (who’s always been candid) decided to sit down with ITV for an interview about his battle with the tabloid press - and revealed a lot more than people expected.

This is the first time Harry is speaking out since he took major UK tabloid publications to court over a phone hacking scandal.

A judge ruled last year that The Mirror Group Newspapers hacked the Prince’s mobile phone from 2003 to 2009 ‘to a modest extent’.

The Duke of Sussex was awarded £140,600 in damages.

However, his fight with the tabloids and the drama that followed apparently had a detrimental impact on his relationship with William.

Harry went on to open up on his ‘destroyed’ relationship with the Royal Family as he sat down with the journalist for his interview.

The ITV documentary titled Tabloids on Trial will air tomorrow night, and Harry isn't holding back.

In a preview clip from the documentary, the host, Becca Barry asked him: "To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed your relationship with your family?"

Harry replied: "It is certainly a central piece to it.

"It is a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press.

"I have made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done.

"It would be nice if we did it as a family, I believe from a service standpoint and when you are in a public role these are the things we should be doing for the greater good.

"I am doing this for my reasons."

Barry asked: "What do you think of their decision not to fight in the way you have?"

Harry said: "I think that everything that has played out has shown people what the truth of the matter is, for me the mission continues.

"I think as you say, it has caused part of a rift."

The Duke of Sussex also went on to talk about the High Court case against Mirror Group Newspapers.

He explained the moment he realised he had won: "To go in there and come out and have the judge rule in our favour was obviously huge.

"To be able to achieve that in a trial is a monumental victory."

The Mirror Group Newspapers told Tyla in response ITV's documentary: "We welcomed the judgment in December 2023 that gave the business the necessary clarity to move forward from events that took place many years ago.

"Where historical wrongdoing took place, we apologise unreservedly, have taken full responsibility and paid compensation."
