You may have noticed that Prince William does not wear his wedding ring, and as it turns out, there’s a very specific reason as to why.
After the future King’s wife, Kate Middleton, was spotted without her iconic engagement ring, more attention than ever has been drawn to them forgoing what is seen by regular people as tradition.
But Prince William has never actually worn a wedding ring, and it’s a decision he still upholds to this day.

He chose not to wear a wedding band for his wedding ceremony on 29 April, 2011.
A spokesperson told People magazine at the time: “There is only going to be one ring, in accordance with the couple’s wishes.”
As for why the dad-of-three decided against wearing a wedding ring, a source previously told the Mirror that it all links back to the Prince’s own style.
"He’s not one for jewellery,” the source shared.

“He’s never worn any. He decided he didn’t want to wear one now. It’s all down to personal preference.”
The unnamed source added: “Catherine will wear a ring fashioned from a lump of Welsh gold owned by the Royal Family that has been smelted down. The couple have both had a hand in the design. This is the ring Prince Harry will carry and hand over in the traditional way.”
The Princess of Wales’ ring once belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. It is a 12-carat sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds. It was given to Princess Diana by King Charles when he was a prince.

Kate opted to wear her engagement ring alongside her wedding band, which is tradition.
Royal commentator Eloise Parker told Marie Claire: “Although it’s traditional for royal women to wear both an engagement ring and a wedding ring after they get married, it’s never been traditional for royal men to wear one.”
Prince Philip, who was married to the Queen for 73 years, did not wear a wedding band.
In a video shared on 9 September to announce she had completed chemotherapy, Kate wore what appears to be a new eternity band.

It was previously seen in a video shared on 11 August where she appeared alongside her husband to congratulate Team GB at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
