You could have royal blood if you have one of these 100 surnames

Could you have a certain royal somewhere on your family tree?

In this new age of modern technology, genealogy and a plethora of online heritage and ancestry sites, it's now easier than ever to trace back your roots to distant relatives from times gone by.

And it's clear people are interested in a whole lot more than just their great-great-grandparents, as many appear to have wondered from time to time whether they could, in fact, be related to royalty.

Family History Daily has made the hunt for tracing back your possibly royal family tree lineage that bit easier after compiling a list of 100 surnames that could mean you've got blue blood in you!

The ancestry site has cited Charles H. Browning's 1891 book titled Americans of Royal Descent, which includes hundreds of surnames and documents the royal family trees of these individuals in detail.

Out of those hundreds, Family History Daily has compiled a list of just 100 names; however, it's important to note that Browning's text isn't the only (or most updated) source of information on the aristocratic lineages of early Americans.

But, before we jot down the extensive list, it's important to note that while it may be exciting to see your surname below, you'll need to do a whole lot more additional research to make any concrete conclusions as all information really should be be verified and properly sourced before it can be considered a legitimate addition to your family tree.

So, without further ado, let's get into it...

OK, as we say, having one of these 'royal last names' doesn't necessarily mean you definitely have royal ancestry and, likewise, if you or one of your ancestors' surnames isn't on Browning's list, then it also doesn't mean that you don’t have royal ancestry.

The long and short of it simply is that this is just a small sample of once-royal last names - but it's fun to have a look through regardless!
