An expert has revealed why Meghan Markle often chooses to wear bright red to public appearances.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, has worn the striking colour a number of times while appearing in public and apparently, there's a really simple reason why.

Way before she started dating Prince Harry, 40, back in 2016, Meghan was already in the public eye as a successful actor on Suits.

Of course, once she became a member of the royal family, her fame skyrocketed and the royal started attending all kinds of high-profile public engagements.

Naturally, her fashion choices were often a huge talking point both during and after these events and while Meghan and Harry have since taken a step back from their lives as working royals, the pair still attend a fair amount of glamorous events as well as public appearances.

Just recently, Meghan attended a charity gala in Los Angeles wearing a bright red silk, Carolina Herrera gown worth over £5,000.

Meanwhile, at the One Young World summit in Manchester back in 2022, Meghan wore a red blouse and trouser co-ord by sustainable brand, Another Tomorrow.

And who could forget *that* Self Portrait gown that Meghan wore when arriving in Tonga for her and Harry's royal tour in 2018?

Kate Jones, stylist at House of Colour, explained why red is such a popular choice for Meghan.

She told the MailOnline: "The colour red traditionally represents power, opulence, passion and love. It's bold and exciting, especially if worn top to toe. It tells your audience that you are a confident person who isn't afraid to be noticed.

"Meghan would also be drawn to the colour because it represents strength and courage, characteristics I believe she is keen to project."

Most recently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared via video at the Global Ministerial Conference on Violence Against Children in Colombia last weekend.

The event marked the couple's first joint public appearance together in almost two months.

A clip played at the vital South American conference saw the couple discussing the importance of online safety for children, speaking directly into the camera for a joint speech.

Father-of-two Harry - who shares son Archie, five, and daughter Lilibet, three, with wife Meghan - was speaking on behalf of their non-profit The Archewell Foundation.

He stressed in his speech 'the urgency to reassess and redefine our approach to protecting children'.

Speaking to Tyla on behalf of SpinGenie, body language professional Darren Stanton made a comparison between the couple's latest appearance and their previously public attendances.

"Harry has been quite relaxed in recent appearances, such as at The Invictus Games, where we’ve seen him on his own," he began. "Here, his face is red, his eyebrows are together, and he seems quite tense, which we can tell as his shoulders are up here."

He continued: "While Harry and Meghan aren’t being particularly tactile, with no handholding, they are still standing close together and putting on a unified front. There's a minimal distance between them. Their smiles are a bit cautious and they come across more stoic than usual here."
