Before flying on holiday you'll most likely be thinking about making sure your suitcase is packed, you've got your passport and that you're all set for the airport.

It might seem that when you're on holiday there's nothing to worry about, but being robbed while abroad can happen and it can be difficult to navigate.

Losing a bank card is bad enough anyway, but abroad when you want to be splashing out on holiday cocktails, meals and souvenirs? Nightmare.

However there are things you can do to stop yourself being a target for potential thieves when travelling, including the unusual hack of hiding valuables and things like your credit or bank card inside your shoes.

A flight attendant told the Daily Express about the best way to keep your valuables safe and stop them from being nicked in your hotel room and your shoes are the safest and most covert option.

While the temptation to leave your things out can be high, it's safer to keep them out of view and this includes bank cards, jewellery and anything you wouldn't want stolen.

They explained that it was important to keep the really important stuff like credit cards or ID in 'strange places in the room' and said the inside of his shoes was his preferred hiding spot.

Putting your valuables on the side of the bed or over by the desk are two of the pretty common places to put things like money, passports, bank cards and jewellery, so finding more covert places can keep them safe.

The flight attendant also explained that other good hiding spots include the handle of a hairbrush or inside used toiletries bottles.

Even the most dedicated of robbers isn't going to waste time hunting around your bottle of TRESemmé to see if there's something they want inside.

Another tip to stop your hotel room being targeted includes always having the TV on in your room if you were going out.

This can hopefully convince a potential thief that someone's inside and to look elsewhere for somewhere to break into.

It also turns out that shoes aren't just useful for hiding bank cards in as another travel hack included putting one shoe in the safe in your hotel room as then you won't forget about the valuables you've hidden away.

The idea being that when you pack up before heading home you'll notice you only have one trainer or flip flop and remember where you left the other, meaning you don't leave anything valuable in the room.
