Flight attendant reveals terrifying reason why you should never fall asleep before take off

If you're prone to falling asleep once you've taken your seat, you might have to start drinking more coffee

If you're anything like me, you might have boarded a flight that was taking off so early in the morning that you fell asleep onboard before you'd even taken off.

In fact, I don't even need to be that sleepy - sometimes I just fall right asleep.

Well, it turns out I've been doing it all wrong, as an expert has warned exactly why we shouldn't be snoozing on a plane before take off.

Flight attendant Ale Pedroza shared her pearls of wisdom on TikTok, which, let's face it, is where we all turn to for airplane advice these days.

Ale, from Orlando, Florida, shared a list of what not to do on an airplane, which lo and behold, included catching some zzz before the plane has even taken off.

Don't fall asleep before taking off

Ale says: "Try not to fall asleep before take off.

"I know travelling can be exhausting, and sometimes you just want to get on an airplane and fall fast asleep.

"So, not only is it not good for your ears to fall asleep before you take off, but you also want to remember that taxiing is one of the most crucial phases of flights.

"You want to make sure that you are completely aware and completely awake in case of an emergency or in case you have to evacuate."

So try and keep your eyes open if you can - you never know what you might need to be awake for.

Don't drink your own alcohol

According to Ale, it is 'against federal regulations' to consume your own booze on the flight.

This is because the flight attendants do need to make sure that passengers are drinking responsibly.

"And if you are drinking your own alcohol we can't really track that. It is a federal thing it is not an airline thing." she continues to say.

Don't be barefoot

"Don't walk around barefoot on any airline or any airplane," Ale says.

"If you decide to take your shoes off in your seat, that's a different story but do not walk into the lavatory with bare feet.

"You never know what you are stepping on and the floor is not always the cleanest."

That's bad news for those who like to feet footloose and fancy free whilst at high altitudes.

The viral video has certainly divided opinion.

One person wrote: "I get the best sleep before take off especially during taxiing."

Another said: "WHO is walking around barefoot omg?????"

A third added: "Lol a flight attendant watched me take shots of tequila once and said nothing."

And a fourth simply put: "It disgusts me how people walk in the bathroom with no shoes on!"

We appreciate the advice, and it's noted for next time we jet off on our holidays.
