A holidaymaker in the States has been left concerned that airport authorities will wrongly assume his brand new passport is a counterfeit.
Taking to Reddit, the hopeful traveller explained his predicament, revealing that he recently renewed his passport after realising his former document had been in use for over a decade.

Upon completing a lengthy form and collecting his brand spanking new passport, the unnamed man was excited for his upcoming trip overseas.
US passports - much like the new post-Brexit British documents - are black in colour, and bare a gold emblem on the front, identifying that the carrier is a citizen of America.
After picking up the vital travel form of identification, the anonymous man claims he tucked it into his pocket for the day, spending around eight hours getting on with his daily errands.

It wasn't until later on that day - upon removing the passport from his person - that he was both baffled and concerned to see that the entire front cover had been eradicated.
Taking to Reddit, he hit out: "Got my passport renewed and it looks like the government decided to cut costs by using cheaper ink on the front of passports and not inlaying the text anymore.
"I had this in my pocket for about 8 hours while walking around and the emblem and lettering on front has almost completely disappeared."

The disgruntled flyer went on to explain: "My wife has had hers for 8 years and has used it plenty and it looks good as new, and my expired passport still looks better after over 10 years of use."
As well as offering the social media user their condolences - being that a renewed passport would have set the man back a hefty $130 - many readers of his online quandary raised the issue that the document may be deemed a fake.
"In all seriousness, this guy will start getting stopped a lot when he travels," one explained.
"Perhaps, people will be thinking it's a counterfeit. I've seen way better counterfeited than this."

A second pointed out: "It doesn’t look very well cut either, is the cover frayed on the top?"
Others, however, went on to tease the poor fella, one joking: "You are now stateless. You must live in the airport like Tom Hanks."
"You are officially American't," another teased.
