People are flocking to social media in shock after an airplane was forced to land because of a woman shouting at staff over wine.

Flying is hardly the most enjoyable experience at the best of times, let alone when the in-flight entertainment turns from you settling into a recently released movie to a woman screaming at passengers and airplane staff.

On 25 July, passengers on board a United Airlines flight from Houston to Los Angeles saw their flight delayed - not as a result of delays at the airport or any adverse weather conditions but because of an angry 'Karen' who let rip at flight attendants while the plane was in the sky.

In a series of videos posted to TikTok by a man named Blake Perkins - who goes by @bperkins33 on the platform - a woman can be seen shouting at another passenger before turning on the flight attendants, saying she believes she's being 'accused' of something by one of them.

Other members of United Airlines staff try and tell the woman she's 'not being accused of anything', but she fails to calm down.

Even when the staff inform her they'll have to 'divert the flight' and let her be taken away 'in handcuffs', the woman doesn't relent.

The first video shows the woman having a go at another passenger.

Other passengers can be heard yelling at the woman to 'sit down', with attendants warning her of the disruption she's causing.

One of the attendant says: "You came on the plane with wine [...] I was nice enough to let you on the aircraft. [...] This is how you're going to treat me?"

He later resolves: "There was wine in the cup. You drank some. Okay, we're going to divert and you're going to go to jail."

The 'Karen' then yells at United Airlines staff.

After finally getting the woman to sit back in her seat, the attendant questions 'why [she] is doing this'.

The attendant continues: "I helped you get on the aircraft. [...] You were crying and I gave you a hug because you told me you were having anxiety. And I hugged you and I knew you were drinking wine and you're not allowed to and I still let you on the aircraft.

"There are children, there are families on board."

He then gives up, leaving the 'Karen' in her seat as the plane diverts to Phoenix.

The plane ended up being diverted to Phoenix.

After landing in Phoenix, law enforcement came and took the woman off the plane.

The aircraft then continued its journey to LA.

A spokesperson for United Airlines told Tyla: "On Tuesday, July 25, United flight 1813 diverted to Phoenix due to a disruptive passenger who continually refused to follow the flight attendant’s instructions to return to her seat. Law enforcement officials met the aircraft on arrival and removed the passenger, and the flight subsequently departed for Los Angeles later that evening.

"The customer has been banned from future United flights while we review this matter."
