And don't even think about being barefoot too

One of the best parts of going on holiday is deciding on an airport outfit.

While many of us opt for something loose-fitting, or a comfy tracksuit set, one of the most popular items you'll spot being worn in any airport terminal is leggings.

Hailed for their soft, comfy quality, and the fact you can wear them with just about anything has cemented them as a firm favourite for many.

And yet, the things we love most in life are often the things that cause us the most sadness, as a plane expert has revealed why you shouldn't opt for leggings when flying - at any cost.

This warning is a matter of safety - so you might want to listen up for this one.

Aviation expert Christine Negroni dished the dirt, telling The Sun: "You might have to escape through a cabin fire or there could be a separate fire on the ground once you leave the aircraft.

"Everyone is wearing yoga pants on planes now, but I avoid all artificial fibres because they are more likely to burn and stick to you if there is a fire.

"I’d advise wearing cotton clothes or anything made of natural fibres."

The pearls of wisdom don't stop there.

She also opened up about suitable footwear.

Heels should be avoided and you shouldn't take your shoes off at any point either - as you don't know where you could end up.

Christine continued to say: "If you escape an aircraft, the floor could be very hot or cold, it might be covered in oil or on fire, or in a cornfield – you won’t want to be barefoot.

"Mainly err on the side of caution. Pick sneakers over high heels, pick natural fibres over synthetic, and take tight-fitting clothes over loose-fitting."

So there you have it. Stick to cotton clothing and wear some flats, while resisting the urge to go barefoot mid-flight.

And in the event that you're going to try and blag some first-class seating on your next flight, we've got you sorted there too.

Ex-cabin crew member for Virgin Atlantic, Mandy Smith, spoke to Tyla about how to best secure those comfortable seats where the champagne doth flow.

She shared: "Dress well, and dress for the cabin that you want to be in.

"And don’t have children, because they will never upgrade children, ever.

“And be polite, and be nice, don’t shout at anyone because negative behaviour is not rewarded.”

There you have it.
