A woman has warned others about the dangers of sleeping with the air conditioning on after she ended up in hospital while on holiday.

There's nothing nicer than walking into a cool hotel room after having been out in the blazing heat all day.

But one woman has urged people to take caution when thinking about leaving the air con on throughout the night.

24-year-old Liana Foster was on holiday with her family in Antalya, Turkey, when she woke up with a sore throat.

The content creator and scientist, from north London, said: "I felt really groggy and got a sore throat as well.

"I was really shaky.

"I couldn't eat or drink.

"I thought it was Covid again.

"My temperature was bad, my body was aching."

Despite feeling under the weather, she decided not to use the hotel doctor as it was too 'expensive'.

However, the following day her mum, Lynette, found white spots at the back of Liana's throat and ended up taking her to the hospital.

She spent five hours in hospital for tonsillitis and was even put on an IV drip.

Liana said: "I went to hospital and they said I have a really bad case of tonsillitis.

"They said it can happen from the air con.

"It's been pretty dull for the last few days of holiday."

But this wasn't the first night that Liana had slept with the air con on in the hotel.

She explained: "The first night we had it [the air con] on really low in the room.

"I think I sleep through my mouth more.

"It made me ill."

She added: "When it comes to the hotel they are not going to maintain it.

"They say it can be mouldy air.

"The doctor said it was most likely from the air con.

"I couldn't consume oral antibiotics so I had to get injections for three days and twice a day.

"I was in a lot of pain."

Liana, who arrived back in the UK on 23 July, is now taking oral antibiotics and wants to warn others about the potential dangers sleeping with the air con on - unless they know for certain that it has been regularly maintained.

Reflecting on the incident, she said: "I believe if we didn't sleep with the air con on it would have been fine.

"I've had tonsillitis before but it has never been that bad.

"If bacteria travels down the throat it can get to her heart and other organs."
