People are in hot debate over a video of a woman slapping her boyfriend after he proposed with a gummy ring.
Proposals can be very tricky moments to plan. They come with a lot of anxiety, expectation and pressure – particularly if you choose to do it in front of an audience of thousands.
Unfortunately for one guy, his proposal last Sunday, 2 October, really didn't go to plan and actually went so badly wrong that it ended up going viral.

However, the internet has been left divided over whether or not he – or his girlfriend – is to blame for just how disastrously the moment went.
Prepare to wince:
It's a moment many dream about.

Turning around to see your partner getting down on one knee, your face a mixture of shock but stunned delight. The ring holder full of nervous anticipation and hope, desperate to hear what the answer will be.
Alas, pulling out a fake ring in front of thousands at a Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox game at the Rogers Centre may not have been the smartest idea.
Indeed, the man's girlfriend was so unimpressed, she didn't even begin to answer the big question, but instead slapped him and dunked her drink on him.

However, people have been left extremely conflicted by the moment, and some have called out the girlfriend for slapping her partner.
One user said: "She isn’t worth it man. Lol so aggressive."
"If she loved him. engagement or candy engagement..... yes should [have] been the answer. 10/10 not the girl for him," another wrote.
A third commented: "The hypocrisy if this was the other way around why aren't people calling her out for domestic violence."

Others have called the man's stunt – in particular, using a gummy ring and potentially the proposal actually being a prank and 'fake' – 'humiliating'.
"You can’t mess with someone like that. He humiliated her in front of THOUSANDS of people. Her emotions were probably the most exciting moment ever…" one said.
A second commented: "She was dead wrong for assaulting him BUT...... I honestly understand why. I'd be shocked and humiliated if my guy did this."

A final added: "Why need to make a joke and embarrass her to start with all bc he was too uncomfortable with a moment of sincerity?"
Some other TikTokers theorised the man actually had the 'real ring' in his pocket, and was just making a joke, or testing his girlfriend, with the gummy one.
What happened after the proposal is unknown, but it certainly seems up in the air whether we'll be hearing wedding bells for the couple anytime soon.
