In all honesty, I always thought lip plumpers were a bit of a con.
So I was intrigued when Charlotte Tilbury launched a brand new gloss designed to give you a fuller pout that lasts for weeks.

The Plumping Pillow Talk Big Plumpgasm gloss comes in two shades — Fair-Medium and Medium-Deep — and retails at £27 a pop.
And, as a self-proclaimed lip plumper sceptic, I was intrigued to put the stuff to the test and see if it really worked.
Here's what happened next...
Love at first swipe
I wanted to measure the gloss by five main characteristics: hydration, consistency, wearability, longevity and — of course — plump-ability.

So, I took the powder-pink tube out of its box, twisted it open and pulled the wand out to be pleasantly surprised by just how much product came out.
I did a quick swatch of both shades on my wrist beforehand and applied them directly onto my pre-balmed lips.
Immediately, I noticed how the pigment of both shades were incredible and, within seconds of application, I could already start to feel the gentle tingles of the formula getting to work.

I went about doing some house chores while the gloss carried on doing its thing for the next few minutes or so and returned to the mirror to find this lip plumper, much to my surprise, does actually to what it says on the tin.
The change was pretty noticeable right off the bat yet still offered a really natural-looking pout. Plus I wasn’t experiencing any of that 'spicy' prickling pain I’ve heard a lot of people warn about when using lip plumpers.
The reaction was detectable, yes, but painful it was not.

I also loved that, even without a lip liner frame, the diamond tip still made for a super precise application which coated my lips evenly while also still being able to get into all the nooks and crannies of the corners and my, particularly pointed, cupid’s bow.
So how does it work?
The formula, made with hyaluronic acid and synthetic collagen alternative, did a pretty great job at combining the hydrating comfort of a balm and the amplifying power of a lip plumper, all while delivering a health dose of colour.
How long does it last?
Now, usually with gloss, I find myself reaching to re-apply every 10 minutes or so but this one was miles away.

I put just one layer on watched some telly, faffed about the house, got dressed, and even had a few pre-drinks and, when I went to go check myself out in the mirror, it hadn’t budged or bled at all.
I only found myself reaching for a reapplication a good few hours, and cocktails, after the first swipe — which is pretty bloody amazing in my books.
The next day, I decided to put the product to the test once again and pop it on my sun-creamed face ahead of a day out at the beach.
Even through all the sweat, sea breeze and shoreline snacking, I was impressed that the pigment still shone through and the hyaluronic acid clearly did its thing keeping my lips nice and hydrated even when faced with the choppy Swansea sea.
And the best part? This high-tech gloss takes 'longevity' to a whole new level as it is actually designed to have an 'over time plumping effect'.
According to the brand, the gloss is able to 'plump the look of natural lips by 25% in two weeks'.
Additionally, the gloss also resulted in a much more even, smoother and glazed finished look which was also pleasantly surprising as other glosses can sometimes dry you out and start cracking.
Charlotte Tilbury claims her latest product is like 'nothing else' you've tried before and, you know what, I reckon she’s right.
