Hairdressers often mix their art with a healthy dose of chattiness on the job - but while you're busy getting to know them, they're actually taking notes and getting to know you even better.
Heading for a chop can be an exciting or stressful experience, depending on your dynamic with the hairdresser at hand and just how comfortable you are with a pair of scissors inches away from your face.
Recently, we've learned that some hairdressers truly can't stand it when we lift our heads out of the shampoo bowl without being instructed, while others see red when you mention how much you used to love your old hairdresser.

Both pretty understandable gripes if you really think about it, and it intrigued us so much we tracked down a hairdresser of our own to unearth some priceless inside information.
Bec Armitage, a hairdresser from Manchester who says she 'absolutely loves' the industry, didn't hold back when dishing the dirt on all she's learned throughout the years.
Bec, a wildly talented hairdresser who has cut the mops of people from every walk of life - from your average Joe to A-listers - went straight into hairdressing after leaving school.

She has worked in major salons as well as on TV sets, at weddings and on photoshoots.
When asked about how she deals with 'cheating' clients - those who try to get away with telling lies to their hairdresser - she didn't mince her words.
With regards to those who 'cheat' by seeing another hairdresser behind their main stylist's back, Bec bluntly stated: "I definitely know about that."
But what of those who try to get away with telling a few fibs?

Bec divulged: "[As a hairdresser], when people lie about not putting any colour on their hair, you stand there and mostly, you just know the truth."
She continued: "But I've done it before when a client has lied and I've said, 'are you one hundred percent sure?' and they say 'yes', but it turns out they've lied.
"I think they do it because they don't want to admit to being grey."

Bec added: "And then I've gone to put the bleach on and their hair becomes screaming orange."
You heard it here first, folks - lying to your hairdresser is absolutely not recommended, and can lead to truly disastrous results.
Bec admits she loves a bit of hairdressing goss, as she used to share on her podcast, The Chop.

She says she 'didn't want to feed into a bitchy hairdresser stereotype at all as a lot of the time it’s not true', but people always ask and there's no harm in sharing some hilarious stories from the salon.
Bec said: "A woman came in and asked for a pen - leading us all to think she was going to draw how she wanted her hair to look.
"After being given a sharpie and a piece of paper, the woman drew a line on her neck of where she wanted her hair to be cut to."
That's one way to get your point across.
In another wild tale, Bec recalls a 'really inappropriate client' who 'wanted her to join a swinger's club', to join his 'tantric sex group'.
And if that wasn't bad enough, Bec says: "That was pretty grim. He smelt like onions."
It seems that for many people, the salon is a place to bare it all.
Bec says she's no stranger to seeing a naked photo.
She admits: "From people showing me nudes that they want to send to other people, to being shown all sorts of filthy photos on the job - I've seen it all.
"And trust me, once you've seen a client naked you can never go back... especially when it's not just from a photo."
