It's important to read up on a city's customs before arriving when you're on your travels.
From learning key phrases and handy tips to reading up on the local history and understanding appropriate attire in certain tourist hotspots - it's clear that not everyone gets it right the first time around.
And that was exactly the case for one tourist who has since warned others about her run-in with the Rome dress code after being caught out for wearing white summer dress.

The woman, Jacki Hodge, from Australia, took to TikTok to share with her 12.3k followers the story of her major fashion blunder.
The overlay text over the short clip read: "Tip you must know for planning your Europe outfits."
And no - that doesn't entail packing the perfect bikini set or evening wear for a night out on the town.

Instead, Jacki warned that something as common place as a white frock could land you in some deep waters when it comes to certain key destination go-to spots.
She recalled her travels to Rome in front of a photo of herself in the outfit she wore the day she got dress-coded and explained how it impacted her holiday in the stunning Italian city.
Jacki began: "If anyone is planning to wear cute s**t like this in Europe, listen up."
She continued: "It looks f**king great in photos but, on this day in Rome, I couldn't get into the Pantheon, I couldn't get into the Vatican...

"You can’t have your shoulders out, you can’t have your boobs out, you definitely can’t have cut-outs and the dress is backless.
"You also had to have your knees covered."
Jacki warned: "So yeah, beware of that with whatever you are wearing and pack things to go over it."

She went on to explain: "Some places you can buy like a robe or something to put on but some of them, like the Pantheon, they'll just be like 'Nope, get out'."
Due to the mishap, Jacki was made to wait outside while her travel pals explored the bucket list destinations.
In the caption of the TikTok, the content creator advised others to 'be aware and dress appropriately' adding: "You also get funny looks sometimes in crop tops and short shorts."
The short clip has since clocked up over 1.9 million views on the platform with thousands eager to thank Jacki for the heads up.

One TikTok user commented: "I would never have thought of this, thank you!"
Others, however, were somewhat baffled that the tourist was unaware of the rules before she embarked on her Roman holiday.
One hit out: "I don’t get it. Do people not read up on the places they’re going to before going? Appropriate attire is such a basic thing."
Another echoed: "How do people not know this?" and a third penned: "Pretty common with a lot of religious buildings."
"Always bring an emergency cardigan," advised a final TikTok user.
