Emily Atack has surprised fans by revealing her mum Kate Robbins plays Penny in the third series of After Life.
Many fans didn't realise Emily is the daughter of actress Kate, who has also appeared in programmes such as Splitting Image, Dinner Ladies, Doctors, Heartbeat and Casualty.
Emily revealed the family connection when she shared a behind the scenes picture of mum Kate on set, before stating how proud of her she is to her 1.8million Instagram followers.
In a post, she wrote: "Proud isn’t even the word. My mother playing Penny Spencer Wright in Afterlife, reminding everyone what an absolute comedy legend she is.
"I remember the first time I ever saw her on stage in Edinburgh when I was about 9 years old, and someone came over to me and said “your mum is one hell of a woman!” - I didn’t really know what that meant then, I do now."
The post has already caught the attention of fans with many rushing to comment and share their love for Kate/Penny.
One fan commented: "She is an ICON!"
"She was hilarious. Best addition for me to the series," said another.
"I didn’t realise this was your Mum, loved her character. The reading was so funny," said a third.
A fourth added: "She was brilliant in it Emily, and hilarious as you would expect."
However, some fans could see the similarities, especially as both Emily and Kate often take on comedic roles. One fan said: "I've not seeing her in much before and I can definitely see she's your mum. You have very similar mannerisms! Her character was so funny."
Kate replied back to the sweet picture from her daughter, writing: "Err. Thank you dear daughter. Love you so much. (But all three of my children know how much I love them)."
Kate joined the cast to play Penny, an erotic-medical author and psychic, who is interviewed by main characters Tony and Lenny. Despite the new series only airing recently, Penny has already proved to be a popular character - with many fans demanding she be given her own spin off series.
We agree, we want to see more of Penny!
