Warning: Spoilers ahead
Fans have been treated to a surprise appearance in the finale episode of Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That.
In episode 10 of the new series, Carrie decides now is the time to scatter Mr Big’s ashes, after her beloved husband died following an intense Peloton regime.
As she starts dating other men, Carrie reaches out to Samantha – her former best friend, who has been noticeably missing throughout the series, thanks to a well-documented feud between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker.
You can see a clip below.
To explain Cattrall’s absence from the series, writers of And Just Like That explained that Samantha had moved to England to pursue her PR career.
After Samantha seemingly rebuffs Carrie’s offer to talk, Carrie decides to head to Paris, where she and Big first declared their undying love for each other.
And afterwards scattering her husband's ashes, she decides to message Samantha one more time, asking whether she’d be able to fly (or swim) over to the French capital for cocktails.
Despite their ongoing animosity, Samantha replies: “How’s tomorrow night?”
While Carrie and Samantha’s reconciliatory drink was not seen on screens, fans were thrilled to have Samantha back…at least, of sorts.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “I’m crying over Samantha’s message.”
A second agreed: “Can we replace Samantha with Miranda now??”
“I’m glad Samantha got in the Eurostar for that cocktail - true friend right there,” said a third.
“WE KNEW THE REAL STAR OF SATC WAS ALWAYS SAMANTHA JONES,” a fourth person cried.
“That sweet Samantha moment at the end…I kinda want more?” added a fifth.
And a sixth agreed: “I loved how Samantha is still there.”
While And Just Like That leaves the door wide open for a second season, a follow-ups series is yet to be commissioned.
Sarah Jessica Parker has expressed her interest in slipping back into her Monolo’s and playing Carrie once more.
Speaking to Variety with writer Michael Patrick King, SJP explained: “Michael and I spoke two weeks ago, and said: ‘OK, when are we going to talk about this?’
“Because there’s a calendar and you don’t want to let too much time pass. There feels like there’s momentum.”
And Just Like That is available to watch on Sky Comedy and NOW.
