The cobbled streets of Weatherfield could be left without one of its most familiar faces as Chris Gascoyne is rumoured to be walking away from Coronation Street.
The iconic soap star, 55, has played Peter Barlow for 23 years and is a family face on many TV screens each week.
However, that could all come to an end as reports have emerged claiming that Gascoyne has 'quit' the role.

The Sun reported that the star will leave his role permanently later this year in a big storyline.
Quoting an unnamed source, the publication reported: “Chris has decided to take an extended break from the soap.
“He loves working at Coronation Street but he’s got a lot of things he wants to do wand the time is right for him to take a break and pursuer other roles.”

Fear not, Coronation Street fans as it appears he won’t be killed off if the reports of him leaving are true.
The source continued: “It isn’t a final goodbye and the door is very much being left open.
“Obviously fans will be devastated but there’s a good few months of huge drama yet before he bids farewell to the cobbles.”

The Sun reported that Gascoyne’s break is indefinite and no date has been set for his possible return as Peter in the future.
When contacted by Tyla for comment, a spokesperson for ITV said Gascoyne is taking an extended break as he has done before and although no date has been set for his return, he will be on screen for the rest of the year and the door will be left open for his return.
Gascoyne recently shared an excited career update with fans which will see him in a brand new role you’re sure to know.
An announcement was shared by The Alban Arena confirming that the actor will play Captain Hook in a Peter Pan pantomime later this year.
