Encanto: Disney Fans Are Convinced They Have Spotted Clue Dolores Was Lying All Along

Could it be true?!

Fans of Disney's newest film Encanto have a shocking theory about Dolores and the relationship she develops with Mariano, her cousin Isabella's fiance.

In the film, Isabela is described as "Señorita Perfecta” by her youngest Mirabel because she is the golden child of the Madrigal family and has been gifted with the power to conjure gorgeous flowers and plants.

She’s due to get married to her fiancé Mariano, but it's soon revealed that Isabela doesn’t actually want to marry him, nor does she want to be as perfect as everyone expects her to be.

Mariano is a lover by nature and after being rejected he confides in Mirabel, who introduces him to Dolores, who finally tells him her true feelings. We also hear her confess her love for Mariano in the song We Don't Talk About Bruno.

When Abuela tells Dolores that Mariano is on his way, she sings about Bruno's prediction about her love life: "He told me that the man of my dreams would be just out of reach, betrothed to another."

With Isabela’s blessing, the Dolores and Mariano start a relationship, but fans have theorised that Dolores may have told a cheeky lie to split Isabela and Mariano up earlier in the film.

A fan on Reddit wrote: “Sometimes I wonder if Dolores lied about Mariano wanting to have five babies so Isabela would say something about not wanting to marry him.”

Dolores was gifted with the power of enhanced hearing and she has a reputation for knowing everything about everyone in their village.

Fans are now debating whether Dolores actually ‘heard’ Mariano’s desire to be a father of five once he tied the knot with Isabela as planned.

Some Encanto viewers weren’t convinced by the Reddit user’s theory. One person replied: “On one hand, believable, but on the other hand, I think it’s even more believable that Mariano was just dreaming out loud about his future with his wife, and she just kinda.. heard.”

Another commenter replied: “Maybe but I’m more surprised that she’s down to have those five kids with him if it’s true lol.”

On the other hand, there was some support for the theory, with one Disney fan writing: “It makes sense! It would be a way of maybe convincing her to give up without hurting her feelings.”

While someone else responded with: “If you look at the expression on her face, she's definitely teasing Isabella.”

Encanto became a huge success after it arrived on Disney+ over the Christmas holidays, and quickly became one of the highest grossing films of the season.

Its chart-topping song, We Don't Talk About Bruno, did so well that it managed to surpass Frozen's Let It Go as Disney's highest-charting song on the UK singles chart - something we thought we would never see.
