Following the recent release of Inventing Anna on Netflix, fans of the show have been comparing the drama series to none other than The Tinder Swindler.

The series, created by showrunner and executive producer Shonda Rhimes, who is the genius behind Bridgerton and Grey’s Anatomy, tells the story of a journalist investigating the case of Anna Delvey, aka “the Instagram-legendary German heiress who stole the hearts of New York’s social scene - and stole their money as well".

Netflix continue: “But is Anna New York’s biggest con woman or is she simply the new portrait of the American dream? Anna and the reporter form a dark, funny love-hate bond as Anna awaits trial and our reporter fights the clock to answer the biggest question in NYC: who is Anna Delvey?”

Now, fans have taken to Twitter to share their opinion on the similarities between the two fraudster-related titles.

One wrote: “First The Tinder Swindler and now Inventing Anna... We are in the mood for fraud.”

Another told followers: “If you liked Tinder Swindler you’ll like Inventing Anna.”

“Apparently Inventing Anna is a good follow-up to The Tinder Swindler. From one fraudster to another,” a third commented.

A different home-viewer asked followers: “So... what should I watch first... The Tinder Swindler? Inventing Anna? Moral Sense? LOL [sic]”.

The series’ showrunner recently revealed in a press release that it was a New York Magazine article about the fraudster which inspired the show.

“I was running on a treadmill when I read the article in New York Magazine about Anna Delvey, and I remember literally jumping off of the treadmill and calling my office,” Rhimes said.

“I really felt like I hadn’t felt that excitement of a story that I wanted to tell and knew exactly how I wanted to tell it in a really long time.”

Inventing Anna is out on Netflix on 11th February 2022.
