Mike Tindall opens up on wife Zara giving birth at home

Mike Tindall opened up about wife Zara Tindall's home birth on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! on Thursday evening.

Mike, 44 and Zara, 41, welcomed their third child Lucas last year, with Zara giving birth at home.

Zara is Princess Anne's daughter, and the late Queen's granddaughter. Lucas is the youngest child of Zara and Mike, with the couple also parents to Mia, eight and Lena, four.

Speaking about how Zara gave birth to their youngest child, Mike explained it actually took place at home because they couldn't get to hospital in time.

"Lucas was rapid, the third one," Mike told campmates.

"As we got our stuff ready to go to the hospital, she got out of the bath, she could barely stand, and she was shaking. The midwife was like, 'she's not making the hospital'.

"I was like, 'what do you mean I can drive fast it's not far away'. She was like, ‘you don’t want to be delivering in the car.’

"Two gym mats down in the bathroom..."

The former rugby union player said Zara was in pain but that the delivery was fast, adding: "It was fast though, from that moment. She almost choked me to death.

In a previous episode of I'm A Celebrity this week, Mike also explained how he had met Zara in Australia almost 20 years ago.

When asked how the pair met, Mike explained how they went for a drink during the World Cup, before heading out on their first date.

"In Sydney, in 2003, I was in the World Cup and she was out watching," explained Mike.

Discussing how the pair met all those years ago, he explained it came about after he was dropped from the semi finals.

"I got dropped from the semi final, and I was pi**ed off so I went for a beer with another guy who was dropped [...] they had met her before and they introduced us and yeah got chatting from there," Mike explained.

Speaking about their first date, he added: "We just went out for lunch, ended up being quite a boozy one, we figured out we both quite like getting smashed, it was a good start."

The pair married in 2011, eight years after they first met in Australia. While Mia was born in 2014, they welcomed Lena in 2018.
