People can’t stop talking about the upcoming Barbie movie, and when the world was given a first look at Ryan Gosling as Ken it caused an impassioned reaction online.
Now the 41-year-old actor has addressed the reaction to his Ken shot in an interview with Jimmy Fallon
Ryan, who was a guest on Thursday’s (21 July) episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, said he was ‘surprised’ by the reaction.

“I was surprised how, you know, some people were clutching their pearls at my Ken as though they had never thought about Ken for a second before this.”
The father-of-two also has a hypothesis about why so many people were caught off guard when they saw his real life interpretation of a Ken doll. “They never played with Ken. Nobody plays with Ken, man."
Ryan asked Jimmy: “Did you play with Ken?”

“Nah,” Jimmy quipped.
“Exactly,” Ryan replied.
Jimmy added: “He was available. He stayed in the toy box.”
Ryan joked: “He’s an accessory and not even one of the cool ones.”

The 47-year-old late night TV host then unveiled a printed version of the first look image of Ryan as Ken and said it ‘officially broke the internet’.
“Well, the Internet's been trying to break me for years," Ryan joked. "So it gave me no other choice.”
Very little is known about Greta Gerwig's live-action Barbie film and the only clues we have so far are the publicity shots of Ryan and co-star Margot Robbie as well as on-set photos taken by paparazzi.

The first was a snap of Margot as the beloved Mattel doll, sees the 32-year-old Australian star in the driver's seat of a pink Chevrolet Corvette.
Rocking the classic bouncy blonde Barbie, Margot looks like she was plucked right off the shelf of a toy shop.
However, in a recent chat with Tyla while promoting his new action film The Gray Man, Ryan hinted that his character Court Gentry might have more in common with Ken than you would think.

"The training for this [The Gray Man] helped with Barbie,” he confessed.
"And I think the fun part for me is that I know Ken would love this movie. I think this would be Ken's favourite movie."
Not too long ago, Ryan revealed that Ken will be 'going through some stuff' in the Barbie movie.
"That Ken life is even harder than the ‘Gray Man’ life, I think,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
“Ken’s got no money, he’s got no job, he’s got no car, he’s got no house. He’s going through some stuff."
We can’t wait to see how this turns out.
Barbie will be released in UK cinemas on 21 July 2023.
