**WARNING! Major spoilers for Stay Close below.**
Stay Close has been our most recent Netflix binge, as we’ve been sucked into the story of Megan and her former life.
Having once worked as ‘Cassie’, an exotic dancer in seedy club Vipers, Megan finds herself drawn back to her past after her old boss, Lorraine, reached out to her.
However, Lorraine’s appearance and news draws Megan back into a world of lies, murder and deceit – with her family becoming caught up in a missing persons case.
Viewers who have seen the whole series will know that Lorraine is the serial killer behind the murders of numerous men for many, many years.
Lorraine was killing men who she thought were violent towards women, after her abusive ex-husband beat her so badly she lost their baby.
She used the carnival weekend as her cover to kill, as most people were in disguises and so it took longer for men to be reported missing.
However, fans have been left baffled that Vanessa confessed to a murder that she actually didn’t commit.
In the final scenes, you saw the serial killer tell Detective Broome that missing student Carlton Flynn was one of her victims, and said that an animal must have taken his body away.
But viewers learn in the final scenes that Megan’s daughter Kayleigh had actually pushed Carlton into the boot of his car, after he tried to spike her drink. She then rang her dad, Dave, to pick her up.
After hearing the news that Carlton had gone missing and recognising the car he was last seen in, Dave decided to push the car into the river – not knowing Carlton was still in the boot.
It left fans of Stay Close baffled that Lorraine confessed to a murder she didn’t do.
Taking to Facebook, one fan asked: “Why did the woman serial killer Lorraine admit to killing Carlton when she actually didn't . Cassie/ Megan's husband did accidentally as he was unconscious in the boot of his own car when the hubby pushed it into the river....so why did she confess to it?”
Others on social media were confused, with another person writing: “The ending of #StayClose doesn’t make sense like why did Lorraine think she killed Carlton/confess to it?”
Well some fans has their own theories.
“I thought Lorraine figured out that it had to be Cassie or her daughter who killed him and was protecting them as she had nothing to lose,” one person mused. “Or option 2) she figured he was a bad guy and deserved to die (like the others) and just confessed to save someone else going down for it.”
Another suggested: “Lorraine saw the girls put Carlton in the boot, so she was covering for them?”
Hmmm…we may need another watch….
