If you’re like us, you would have devoured Stay Close – Netflix’s latest adaptation of one of Harlan Coben’s novels.
The series follows mum-of-three Megan, who finds her life turned upside down when a familiar face from her murky past comes to find her.
Netflix is the home of many of Coben’s adaptations, including Safe and The Innocent, but the most popular series from the American novelist’s repertoire is The Stranger.
And fans who have watched both programmes may have spotted a small Easter egg connecting the two.
In the very first scene of Stay Close, eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted an alpaca.
Its relevance to The Stranger? Well, for those of you who haven’t seen The Stranger, an alpaca is found beheaded in the forest, which ignites an unravelling mystery.
The news was confirmed by Coben himself.
Taking to Twitter, he told his 152,000 followers: “Opening scene of #StayClose. Yes, that’s a little Easter egg for those who watched #TheStranger.”
And fans of Coben’s adaptations loved the little wink towards The Stranger, taking to the comments to thank Coben for confirming the news.
“So funny because when I saw the alpaca, I thought I had the wrong show on at first!” laughed one viewer.
“I laughed when I saw the alpaca,” said a second.
“HAHA so cool. I thought i was force-matching. Nice to hear it confirmed.”
Another throwback reference to The Stranger is the appearance of Richard Armitage in Stay Close. Armitage, who starred as lead Adam Price in The Stranger, instead plays a failed photographer with an obsession.
Desperately searching for ‘Cassie’, he finds himself stunned when she seemingly returns to his life.
Elsewhere, fans have been left baffled at just where Stay Close is set – and some have found it a bit of a turn-off…
