Emma Beadle-McVey has spoken out on social media after facing criticism over her choice of car seat for one of her children.

The mum - married to MTV reality TV series Geordie Shore's Gaz Beadle - uploaded a picture to her Instagram story earlier today (Wednesday, 1 March) showing off her children's car seats.

However, the mum faced criticism from some of her followers over her daughter Primrose's seat.

Emma Beadle-McVey received 'comments' about her choice of car seat for her daughter, Primrose.

In a second upload to her Instagram story, Beadle-McVey admitted she was 'waiting for the messages' she thought she may receive over the car seat.

The mum continued: "Car seats aren't based on just age they're based on height and weight.

"It is safe for Primrose to be in the car seat smaller that she was in as she is TOO BIG. She is 107cm and 17.5kg, probably weighs more now as that was her weight in December.

"I spoke to the brand directly to see which is the safest seat for both children and for our specific car. She's actually bigger than a lot of Chester's friends who are five!"

The mum took to her story to respond to the criticism.

According to the UK Government's Gov.uk site: "Children must normally use a child car seat until they’re 12 years old or 135 centimetres tall, whichever comes first.

"Children over 12 or more than 135cm tall must wear a seat belt.

"You can choose a child car seat based on your child’s height or weight."

The mum explained she chose the seat based on her daughter's height and weight.

If you're choosing a seat based on your child's height the seat is called an 'i-Size' seat.

Gov.uk states: "They [the seat] must be rear-facing until your child is over 15 months old. Your child can use a forward-facing child car seat when they’re over 15 months old.

"You must check the seat to make sure it’s suitable for the height of your child."

According to the UK Government's website, if you're choosing a seat based on your child's height the seat is called an 'i-Size' seat.

If you choose the seat based on your child's weight, Gov.uk notes their weight also determines how they're restrained in the seat.

It continues: "Only EU-approved weight-based child car seats can be used in the UK. These have a label showing a capital ‘E’ in a circle and ‘ECE R44’.

"You may be able to choose from more than one type of seat in the group for your child’s weight."

In another update, Beadle-McVey noted Primrose 'loves' her new car seat.

In another upload, Beadle-McVey shared another photo of her daughter in the car seat.

She captioned the image: "Primrose love hers, this was when it arrived. The colour is beatiful. For all asking yes it's isofix and the model is KIDFIX i-SIZE."
