Macklemore has revealed that he takes his seven-year-old daughter along with him to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings as he believes it's important that she understands his sobriety journey.
The 39-year-old, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, has spoken candidly about his battles with addiction and how he wants to be open with his family about his struggles.
The rapper and wife Tricia Davis share three children: Sloane, seven, Colette, four, and one-year-old Hugo.

Speaking on Audacy’s Check In podcast, Macklemore said that he is open with his eldest daughter as he doesn’t want to breed any ‘secrecy’ or ‘shame’.
He said: "Sloane's been to meetings with me. She asks me questions like, 'Daddy, how's your sober meetings going?' We talk about it, and I don't want to hide that because it's not something that I need to feel guilt or shame or secrecy around.
"The whole intention is to put it out into the open. Like I'm not a finished products, this is what I'm working on, these are my struggles."

He then stressed the importance of being honest with his family but added that there was ‘no rulebook’ when it came to parenting.
"These are things we might have in our family that we have to keep an eye on,” he continued.
“Just be honest. It's a conversation. There's no rulebook here. We're at a new point in parenting... I think that having that conversation early on is important."

This isn’t the first time Macklemore has discussed his addiction issues - admitting in one interview from 2015 that he became ‘sneaky’ and ‘deceitful’ with those closest to him as he struggled to hide his problems.
He told Complex that he would ‘bargain with himself', explaining: “You know, like, Monday, I’ma stop… OK. Tuesday, I’ma stop… OK, f**k it, I might as well go on to the weekend. Sunday, I’m done. But after this bag of weed…”
He continued: “I’m in meetings with management with sunglasses on and I’m rolling around like a 15-year-old trying not to get caught smoking weed in my car. Straight up, driving all around here, like I was 15 years ago. Same s**t. I felt so dumb. I felt like I’m just wasting time. What am I escaping here?”
Macklemore said that his wife becoming pregnant with Sloane was a ‘catalyst’ for getting sober, but revealed that he has had relapses over the years - including in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, which he spoke about to Dax Shepard on his podcast, Armchair Expert, in 2021.
