Waititi and pop singer Ora went public with their relationship in August last year at the premiere for the film The Suicide Squad.
They have been notoriously private about their relationship but they have been pictured together frequently as early as May 2021.
A report in The Sun last week revealed that the pair are now engaged.
An insider told The Sun: "This isn’t about them doing a big showy thing and crowing about it beforehand. It’s just about them being in love and deciding the time is right to formalise their relationship. They couldn’t be happier.

"They didn’t do a whole, ‘Will you marry me?’ thing and an Instagram post."
The insider added: "There’s no ring or big build-up. They just got closer and closer and eventually said to each other almost simultaneously, ‘I want to marry you.’ It’s actually really romantic and just exactly the way they are together."
When asked about the pending wedding on This Morning, Waititi refused to confirm or deny that the couple plan on tying the knot soon.
Waititi's co-star Chris Evans, who voices Buzz Lightyear in the new film, watched and laughed at the Thor: Love and Thunder director's response.

This Morning viewers on Twitter were split on question about Waititi’s relationship, with some calling it ‘awkward’ while others thought the exchange was hilarious.
One Twitter user commented: “Taika Waititi out here avoiding any talk about his relationship."
While someone else shared: “Imagine ending it [interview] by trying to ask about Rita when they’re promoting a film, no wonder he pulled his ear piece out."
