Tom Hanks has revealed the Queen’s favourite cocktail, and it’s just as sophisticated as you’d expect.
During a recent appearance on The One Show, Hanks - who was promoting his upcoming film Elvis - let slip to hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas that he’d attended a dinner party with Her Majesty back in 2011.
Hanks explained: “Out of the corner of my eye I just saw this white-gloved hand put between me and Her Majesty this glass of water. But it wasn’t in a water glass."
The star went on: “I dared to ask the Queen, ‘and what is Your Majesty’s cocktail of choice?’, and she said, ‘Ooh, martini!’.”

Hanks appeared alongside Austin Butler, with whom he stars in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming biopic, and went into further detail about his meeting with the Queen.
“I sat next to the Queen closer than Austin and some lady in a lovely tiara was right next to me,” he explained.
“I was dressed up very nicely. The chit chat with the Queen is something you’ve got to get ready for.”
Hanks went on: “I knew I was going to be sitting next to her so I wanted to be able to talk about things that were of [importance] but not presumptuous. So a few things like how often she truly has time off, it was nice chit chat, it was okay.”

He also quipped: “She’s had a wonderful reign so maybe if I want to polish up my game a little bit I’ll start having martinis.”
Hanks plays the role of Elvis’ manager Colonel Tom Parker in the much-anticipated flick, set for release on 24 June, while Butler takes on The King himself.
The film maps the life and career of rock and roll icon Presley, from his early years in Memphis to his rise to stardom and legend certification.

Centring on the relationship between Presley and Parker, early screenings of the Luhrmann-directed movie have racked up rave reviews.
Parker discovered Presley back in 1955 and quickly became his only representative, helping him score a recording contract within months.
Parker got more than half the income of Presley’s early successes and represented the superstar musician until his death in 1977.
He negotiated all of Presley’s deals, including merch, tv appearances and acting roles and was influential in many of the icon’s most intimate decisions, including his 1967 marriage to Priscilla and Presley’s decision to accept military service in 1958.
