Tom Hank's only daughter has alleged that she suffered abuse at the hands of her mother during her childhood following her parent's split.
Elizabeth Anne (E.A) Hanks, 42, has alleged in her new book, The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road, that her childhood was full of 'confusion, violence, and deprivation'.
The Oscar winner's former wife, Susan Dillingham, has been accused of neglecting her kids throughout their childhood after her divorce from the film star in the 80s.

The mistreatment allegedly began when Susan gained full custody of her and brother Colin Hanks, now 47.
She relocated her family to Sacramento in California from Los Angeles where they were formerly based - a relocation which took Hanks by surprise.

Writing in her book, Elizabeth said: "My dad came to pick us up from school and we're not there. And it turns out we haven't been there for two weeks and he has to track us down."

Speaking about a more hope-filled time, she added: "Eventually a divorce agreement was settled, and I would visit my dad and stepmother (and soon enough my younger half brothers) on the weekends and during summers."
However, the writer revealed that the majority of her childhood was filled with neglect.
She said: "From five to 14, years were filled with confusion, violence, deprivation, and love, I was a Sacramento girl."
Elizabeth noted that her home started off as a 'white house with columns, a backyard with a pool, and a bedroom with pictures of horses plastered on every wall'.

But it wasn't long before it became a place which 'stank of smoke'.

Reflecting on the alleged abuse, she added: "As the years went on, the backyard became so full of dog s**t that you couldn’t walk around it.
"The fridge was bare or full of expired food more often than not, and my mother spent more and more time in her big four-poster bed, poring over the Bible.

"One night, her emotional violence became physical violence."
The 42-year-old noted that she lived with her mum until seventh grade, until she allowed her to move to Los Angeles while visiting Sacramento over weekends and summers.
It wasn't long before Susan told her that she was battling bone cancer, and died at the age 49 in 2002 as a result.
During a 2020 interview, Hanks described the experience of divorcing his wife as a 'horribly painful time'.
