Netflix fans in shock after realising age of Harry Potter star as she’s unveiled as surprising Bridgerton character

Netflix fans in shock after realising age of Harry Potter star as she’s unveiled as surprising Bridgerton character

The star is the latest to join the new cast for Bridgerton season 4

A Harry Potter star has joined the cast of Bridgerton season 4, but fans have been left unimpressed with the age of her character.

Series three of Netflix's hit regency show had viewers in a chokehold as they watched the developing romance between Penelope Featherton (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).

From racy sex scenes that literally broke the furniture to many deep dives into colour themes, there was a lot to keep fans entertained.

And Netflix has been sending fans into overdrive by revealing who we will likely be seeing in the upcoming series of Bridgerton - including Benedict Bridgerton's love interest, Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).

But Ha isn't the only new addition to the cast as Katie Leung, known for playing Cho Chang in the Harry Potter films, is the latest star to be announced for the show.

The actor is set to play the twice-married, twice-widowed Lady Araminta Gun on Bridgerton season 4.

Lady Gun will have two daughters, Rosamund Li and Posy Li, debuting on the marriage scene this season and will be feeling the pressure to get at least one of them married off.

Described as 'fabulous, discerning and blunt', the character won't respond well when her position in society is questioned, as per The Radio Times.

Joining her as her daughters are Michelle Mao and Isabella Wei, with Mao’s character said to be ‘beautiful, vain and eager to please her mother’, while Wei’s character is ‘much kinder’.

While fans are excited for the period drama going back to set on a new season focusing on Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), some were surprised by the casting decision to have Leung play a mother of two adult daughters as the Peripheral star is 37 - only a year older than leading man Thompson.

"Hollywood is f**ked up bc wdym Katie Leung is 37 and Luke Thompson is 36 but she's about to play a mother to grown adults and he's playing a 28 year old man that's just getting married?" someone wrote on X.

"katie leung aka cho chang being old enough to be a bridgerton parent is making my eye twitch i’m sorry what," another added, while a third said: "On the one hand, it’s not insane that a 37 year old woman in regency England would have two daughters of marriageable age … on the other hand … Katie Leung and Nicola Coughlan are the same age …"

"Katie Leung and Luke Thompson are the same age… they are going to be playing mother-in-law and son-in-law," someone else commented.

And a final social media user said: "No way katie leung is old enough to play a mother with 2 adult kids wtf."

Season 4 is in production now and doesn't have a release date yet.
