Amber Heard has changed her name and left the US to move countries as she makes new life for herself

Amber Heard has changed her name and left the US to move countries as she makes new life for herself

Amber Heard's shocking new move follows her highly-publicised trial against ex-husband Johnny Depp

It's been just over two years since Amber Heard and ex-husband Johnny Depp went head-to-head in a headline-hitting defamation trial.

However, the Aquaman star appears to have put her past behind her and is looking to the future after leaving her home country of the US and moving to Europe.

On top of that, those perhaps looking to track down the 38-year-old in her new country might struggle ever so slightly, being that she now reportedly goes by an entirely different name.

As we say, the somewhat surprising news comes two years following her appearance in court after both she and Depp sought damages against each other for alleged defamation.

In the years prior, the couple had announced their divorce after 15 months of marriage, with Amber going on to allege in an interview with the Washington Post that a former flame had been both physically and sexually abusive towards her throughout their relationship.

Despite not naming Depp as the ex in question, the now 61-year-old sued her for defamation, after which she launched a counterclaim for $1million, accusing him of attempt to front a 'smear campaign' against her.

Following an emotional and lengthy trial in court, a jury went on to vote in favour of Depp, subsequently awarding the Pirates of the Caribbean star $5 million in punitive damages and $10 million in compensatory damages.

Heard was also awarded $2 million in compensatory damages, after the jury voted in her favour regarding a comment that one of Johnny's lawyers had made about her.

It was also reported that she'd planned to appeal the verdict.

Despite her partial success in court, however, the star - who, back in 2021, welcomed a daughter via surrogate with an unnamed father - has remained somewhat out of the spotlight.

In fact, it was reported following the trial, at the end of 2022, that Amber had moved with her daughter Oonagh Paige to Spain in the hope of starting over.

An interview with Heard in 2023 confirmed her stay as she spoke of her love for the country.

And apparently, the Justice League star - who is fluent in Spanish - also opted for a change of moniker to compliment her new beginnings.

It was reported by El Diario de Mallorca that the actor had been living under the pseudonym Martha Jane Cannary - the real name of old-West American sharpshooter Calamity Jane.

"The choice of this identity, which appears at the entrance of her new Mallorcan home, draws much attention," the publication wrote at the time.

"Especially as Johnny Depp always maintained that his family trace their roots to ancient Native American tribes and that his great-great-grandmother was Cherokee."

Whether or not the same name is still in use, however, remains unclear - though according to an anonymous source, the only thing on her list of current priorities is her little girl.

They told PEOPLE Magazine last year: "She is focused on raising her daughter. She spends every day with her girl. They stroll around, visit parks and enjoy family time. Amber is a great mom."
