Amy Schumer revealed controversial joke that was banned from the Oscars

Amy Schumer spilled the beans on what was prohibited from the 2022 ceremony

As the 2025 Academy Awards rapidly approach, movie buffs have been reflecting on a joke that Amy Schumer once claimed she was prohibited from making by Oscars bosses.

The comedy star hosted the prestigious ceremony three years earlier alongside co-presenters Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall - when the likes of The Power of the Dog, King Richard and West Side Story were up for nominations.

It's long been understood that presenters of the grand soiree - which sees the biggest names in entertainment go head-to-head for the chance to head home with an almighty golden award - have to be careful about what they discuss whilst on stage.

This isn't just limited to making snide comments about particularly sensitive subjects, ongoing Hollywood scandals and political predicaments, however. It also prevents hosts from dropping f-bombs and making sexually-explicit remarks.

Such was the case for 43-year-old Schumer, who claimed in a Netflix comedy show that she was stopped from making an x-rated comment while hosting the show earlier that year.

She recalled what she'd planned to say - a lengthy sex joke in which she'd planned to namedrop a handful of that year's nominations.

"I don’t know why they said no," she kicked off in a clip which was subsequently shared on Instagram.

"So my husband was going down on me - or as he calls it Squid Game," Schumer continued.

"So… he’s in my Nightmare Alley, my House of Gucci, and I say C'mon C’mon, you know?"

Throwing in a couple more titled. she added of her other-half: "He goes tick, tick… BOOM! He Belfast. I say, 'Get off my Dune!'

"And that’s how our son was born."

She then asked the cheering audience: "What do you think?"

"Can you believe they said no to that? Can you even believe it?" the mother-of-one - who is married to chef and farmer Chris Fischer as of 2018 - continued.

Also speaking on the comedy show, Schumer revealed which other jokes had been disallowed by both the show's producers and her attorney - including references to controversial podcast presenter Joe Rogan and actor James Franco sexual misconduct allegations.

She also claimed she'd been told not to make a joke about Alec Baldwin's accidental killing of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.

"Don’t Look Up is the name of a movie?" Schumer joked. "More like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun."

She continued, adding a comment about Will Smith's infamous slap of Chris Rock: "I wasn’t allowed to say any of that [at the Oscars], but you can just come up and [slap] someone."
