Caitlyn Jenner's statement about Donald Trump's latest order has shocked the internet following her previously critical comments about his treatment of transgender people.

Since his arrival to The White House for his second term as President, Trump has issued a number of executive orders which have a direct impact on the LGBTQ+ community.

So far, he has attempted to establish male and female as the only 'two genders' recognised by the US government, revoked The Equal Employment Opportunity Act, which was put in place to protect numerous groups like women, ethnic minorities, and LGBTQ+ people, and halting funding towards gender transitions for those under 19.

And his latest order is focused on transgender women participating in women’s sports.

In order to ban transgender women from competing, his latest piece of legislation announced plans to deny federal funds for any schools that allow it.

Trump further claimed that the policy would direct the Education Department to inform schools that allow trans athletes to compete will put them in violation of the federal law banning sex discrimination - therefore, banning federal funding.

He claimed this policy would be part of a 'sweeping effort to reclaim our culture and our laws', adding that any school that lets 'men take over women's sports teams or invade your locker rooms' will also be investigated.

"There will be no federal funding. So this will effectively end the attack on female athletes." he said.

"We will defend the proud tradition of female athletes. From now on, women’s sports will be only for women. The war on women’s sports is over."

Jenner, herself a former Olympic athlete and a transgender woman, took to Twitter to issue a supportive statement, writing: "Another victory in the fight for protecting women’s sports! President Trump signs an Executive Order keeping biological men out of women’s sports!

"As an Olympian, I will continue to fight this issue, lobbying sport governing body’s all over the world to follow our lead!"

In the past, the reality TV star has been critical of Trump's treatment of subjects related to the trans community.

She wrote a column for the Washington Post admitting that her prior support for Trump had been a ‘mistake’ in 2018, claiming that he was using the trans community as ‘political pawns’.

Adding that the 'the trans community is being relentlessly attacked by this president', she said: “The leader of our nation has shown no regard for an already marginalised and struggling community. He has ignored our humanity. He has insulted our dignity.”

The previous year, she'd also expressed disappointment about Trump overturning guidance allowing transgender students to use school toilets matching their gender identity.

At the time, she told the BBC: “It doesn’t make me regret my vote yet, but it is very disappointing and I have been very verbal about that.

“I thought Trump would be better on these issues.”

Following Trump's election victory against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, Jenner took to Instagram to share a message to her 15.4 million followers, declaring: "Hope is back in America."
