Comedian Chloe Fineman hits back at trolls who slammed red carpet look

Saturday Night Live's Chloe Fineman was on the Cannes red carpet celebrating Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis

Chloe Fineman has issued an eight-word response after her appearance at the annual Cannes Film Festival was met with backlash.

On Thursday (16 May), the Saturday Night Live star took to the red carpet to support director Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis making its Cannes debut.

The launch of the ambitious science-fiction epic received a mixed reaction from critics, with some publications citing hearing boos from the gathered audience.

Megalopolis is the 85-year-old’s first film in 13 years and landed a seven-minute standing ovation at the South of France film festival.

Ahead of the flick's premiere, comedian and actress Chloe, 35, stepped out to celebrate wearing a red sequin Celine by Hedi Slimane dress.

At the event, she posed for photos in the floor-length gown beside co-stars Aubrey Plaza and Game of Thrones' Nathalie Emmanuel.

Following her appearance, celebrity fan accounts were quick to post details of her outfit on social media.

One dedicated Instagram account, @checkthetag, shared two images of the actress to its 179,000 followers.

However, the content has garnered a multitude of negative reactions, with one user commenting: “These picture are weird. Her head looks too big for her body or something.”

A second said: “This dress is giving us nothing.”

“It’s a very nice dress, but it does absolutely nothing for her body shape,” typed another.

Following the backlash, Chloe has also taken to the post to issue a plea to social media trolls.

“No need to be so mean! Thank you,” she wrote.

Many have since rushed to the Babylon actress’ defence, with celebrity stylist Jessica Paster writing: “Actually I saw her in real life and she was gorgeous!!! When u like Chloe …. U don’t need clown wear !!! The fits and color were great.”

“Comments about her weight and body are gross, I don’t see any of you showing up on posts about plus size women commenting on their weight fluctuations,” commented a second Instagram user.

Another typed: “I like this!!! I think it’s well executed and classy. Not sure why people are being so bizarre in these comments.”

The California native, best known for her work on SNL, joined the sketch comedy series in 2019.

Two seasons later, she was promoted to repertory status and recently made headlines after parodying Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa.

During a skit, Chloe dressed up as the ‘Karma’ hitmaker and impersonated her during a Weekend Update segment.

"That's right! I'm a bad girl now! Yes, yes, it's a pretty big change,” she cried during the show.

"I used to be rainbow sparkles, and now I'm black sparkles. I look like if a figure skater joined a street gang,”

Reacting to the segment, JoJo herself took to Instagram and wrote: “ICONIC. I literally don't know what to say.

“This is f***ing crazy. 3 and a half minute skit on SNL...."
