Kim Cattrall’s very honest response to rumours she’s returning to And Just Like That following feud with Sarah Jessica Parker

Kim Cattrall’s very honest response to rumours she’s returning to And Just Like That following feud with Sarah Jessica Parker

Social media was set alight by rumours that Cattrall, who played the iconic Samantha Jones, was set to return

Sex and the City (SATC) royalty Kim Cattrall has responded to rumours that went viral on social media over the weekend, claiming that she was set to star in the forthcoming series of And Just Like That...

Fans were devastated upon learning that the SATC reboot, HBO's And Just Like That... (AJLT), which premiered at the end of 2021, wouldn't feature Cattrall, despite the rest of the main cast - Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis all reprising their roles for the series.

She did make a short cameo (albeit in a solo scene) during the season finale of AJLT season two, during which she was seen in the back of a taxi on the phone to Carrie (Jessica Parker), who she tells she can no longer see her for dinner. Instead, she tells Carrie's apartment: "Thank you for everything, you f******g fabulous, fabulous flat."

So, fans were cautiously excited when a huge rumour swept the internet last week, stating that Cattrall was set to star in AJLT season three, sparking further rumours of a reconciliation between the pair.

Life & Style reported that Cattrall was set to return, stating that an insider had claimed that: "They’ve paved the way for Samantha to come back, it’s assumed that they’ve done a deal with Kim and they’re just waiting for the right time to announce it.

"The word is that she’ll get to do all her scenes in London. They’ll be bending over backwards to pay her an absolute fortune, and it’s all on her terms because she’s so central to the franchise.”

People exploded with delight over the possible reprisal, with one fan tweeting Cattrall to ask her: "Is it true? Is the queen back?"

Sadly, all good things must come to an end as Cattrall set the record straight yesterday (21 July).

She responded to an article buoying the rumours in Elle, writing on X: "Aw that’s so kind but I’m not", followed by a kiss emoji.

One fan summed up the feelings of us all, writing: "You will be missed legend."

Off screen, Cattrall and Jessica Parker have suffered a tense relationship, which perhaps explains why she was largely missing from AJLT.

Jessica Parker gave an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2022 which detailed their falling out.

She said that it dates back to 2017, when a third SATC film was derailed due to Cattrall's 'contractual demands'.

"They didn’t feel comfortable meeting where she wanted to meet, and so we didn’t do the movie because we didn’t want to do it without Kim.

“Were we [she, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon] disappointed? Sure. But it happens.”

Cattrall previously spoke out about the feud on Piers Morgan's Life Stories and refuted claims that the third movie didn't happen because of her 'diva' demands.

"We've never been friends. We've been colleagues and in some ways it's a very healthy place to be because then you have a clear line between your professional life and relationship and your personal."

Cattrall played the iconic Samantha Jones in SATC throughout the show's run between 1998 and 2004, and reprised her role in the films Sex and the City (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010).

Her character was known for her bold attitude towards men and sex, and is famed for her various one-liners.
