"I’ve got to look on the positive side - I’m still here; I’ve got another chance. I’ve got to go at it."
The crash clearly took its toll on the athlete's family too with one of Freddie's four children, Corey who is now 18, telling MailOnline that his dad was 'lucky to be alive' after the high-speed crash which took place when he was filming a brand new series of Top Gear on the test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey before the open-topped three-wheeled high speed vehicle he was driving flipped over.
"He's OK," Corey said at the time. "I'm not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.
