Hilaria Baldwin speaks out on surprising age gap with stepdaughter Ireland

The mum-of-seven opened up about the blended family dynamic on a new episode of The Baldwins

Hilaria Baldwin has spoken out about the surprising age gap with her step-daughter.

Hilaria tied the knot with 30 Rock actor, Alec Baldwin, back in 2012 and share seven children together, with their latest family reality TV series, The Baldwins, giving fans a glimpse into their life at home.

However, ahead of starting up a family with Hilaria, Alec had a daughter named Ireland with his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, who is very close in age to her step-mum.

Hilaria, 41, and Ireland, 29, have a 11-year age gap - one that is closer than the difference in years between the mum-of-seven and her own hubby who is set to turn 67 next months (3 April).

Opening up about their family dynamic on Sunday's episode (23 March) of The Baldwins, Hilaria explained: "My relationship with Ireland is, I feel like it's unique for a step-mum and step-daughter relationship, because that's technically what we are.

"But first of all, I'm 11 years older than her. I didn't raise her, and we find tremendous humour in that, and we always have found tremendous humour."

The close age gap was made even more evident when the two women welcomed their respective children a mere 11 months apart.

Hilaria and Alec welcomed their youngest daughter, Ilaria Catalina Irena, in September 2022 while Ireland gave birth to her first baby Holland with her musician boyfriend, RAC, in May the following year.

"I haven't seen Ireland in a long time because we live so far and we both had babies, and even though Alec met his new baby granddaughter, I haven't met Holland until this little trip," she said, referring to Ireland’s trip to New York.

"We FaceTime all the time, we talk all the time, but we haven't actually met up. And so we got all the kids together for a play date this morning."

She added: "It’s so wonderful, because we were pregnant together, but just barely.

"So my baby is almost nine months older than Ireland's baby, but my baby is Holland's aunt, and Holland is my baby's niece."

Explaining what it was like before she was officially Ireland's step-mum, Hilaria recalled: "I first had a conversation with Alec, and I said, you know, if she doesn't like me, I'm not staying 'cause I'm not going to be wicked stepmother."

She also stated: "My place in life is not to come into a family and cause problems."

However, that clearly wasn't an issue as Ireland was happy to accept Hilaria into the family.

"She immediately welcomed me. It was so easy. We’ve never fought," she gushed.
